freaky holiday moment...

on Saturday, my husband and I went to a small old town in Michigan (Holly) for their Dicken's
Festival. they had closed off a block and had a stage and bench seating set up.  Actors performed a comedic version of "A Christmas Carol" on the stage - observed by many families, including Bernie and I.  When the ghost of Christmas present came out, a huge plow horse,
hooked up to a carriage, that had been just standing at the end of the block, got spooked.  He reared up and decided to go barreling into the crowd that was watching the play at around 40 mph. I saw him coming and screamed to my husband, "Bernie, RUN!" That horse charged right through the middle of the crowd with the carriage. Right after he passed through, there was a little girl (maybe around 8 years old) lying on the street crying (she had been run over by the carriage) and her mother was lying in the street in shock - with one of her shoes knocked off and lying next to her.  Ambulances came and it's possible the little girl's arm was broken. Many benches were shattered to pieces - including the one Bernie and I had been sitting on.

That's it. That's all she wrote. Never saw anything in the paper or on the news about it .  I did have constant flashbacks of seeing the horse charging into the crowd
and screaming "Bernie run" for the rest of the day, though...  I'll never think of the Christmas Carol the same way ever again.

oh - and the kicker is, one of the actors told the crowd they'd continue with the entertainment down another street   Is this a common country thing? Huge-ass plow horses running into crowds and breaking the bones of mothers and children?

Holy crap!  How freaky .... and sounds every bit as traumatic as a near-car accident would have been.  Glad you're okay, but that's really weird you never saw anything about it on the news ?

That's insane.  How could that not be newsworthy?  Glad you're okay.

it was - it was like a near car accident.  I was shaking for quite some time afterward.  I really think it was one of the most traumatic experiences in my life - and I've had some pretty traumatic experiences... we seriously had seconds to run... really surprised nothing showed up in the media.  Maybe it wasn't juicy enough because there were no cameras... - still, even a little blurb in the paper would be expected you would think.

Whoa.  I'm sitting here reading your story with my mouth slack-jawed in amazement.  I'm glad you guys are okay.  That sounds horrible!!!  That poor little girl is probably going to have nightmares for quite awhile, I'd imagine.  I probably would!

That's crazy. As a child of a small, country town, nothing like that ever happened and if it had, it definitely would have been in the news. Big news in a small town.

Thank goodness you're alright!

i know what you mean about newsworthy items not passing muster.  a few weeks ago we had a brush/palm tree fire in santa monica, ca (which NEVER has fires & it was just a weird freak thing that happened) and even though i SAW the newscopters hovering there was nothing on the news at all!  i had to google it and found it covered in san francisco & san diego... but not in the actual city it happened??  i guess brad sneezed on angelina that day or something!  i'm so glad you are okay, that was really lucky you missed it!!
