paint color for living room
Permalink Closed

Hi All,

I'm looking for suggestions for paint colors for my living room - right now it's just plain old decorator white and I want to make the room feel warmer and homier.  My furniture is dark charcoal gray and my coffee table/end table are a darker brown wood with glass tops.  My favorite color is purple, so a lot of the pictures and accents (vases, candles, etc.. ) are dark purple.  I was thinking a dark beige/taupe paint color would look pretty, but I'm not sure if that would "match" everything else...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Why don't you try a lavendar or, better yet, a purplish-gray that is pale but will accent your accessories?

I don't know if taupe will look good w/ your couches, but I guess it depends on the shade you choose.  Let me see if I can find some color samples to post......

ETA:  I couldn't copy and paste these color samples, but go to www.behr.com and click on explore color to look for these color samples:

Wild Thistle 630F-4

Ruffled Iris 630D-4

Ash Violet 640F-5

Fading Sunset 640F-4

(maybe your focal point wall could be this color - Enchanted Evening 640F-6)

If you really want to do taupes, look at these (without knowing the exact color of your couches):

Garden Wall 730D-4

Pebble Stone 750D-4

Spartan Stone 780D-5

Squirrel 790D-5

(maybe your focal point wall could be this darker color: Dusty Mountain 790D-6 or Coconut Husk 730D-6, depending on whether/if you go with a brown-taupe or a gray-taupe)

I agree with MissMee, a purplish-gray would look great with the charcoal and the chocolate brown, as well as the purple accents in the room.

I know your first instinct is to go with a neutral (especially in a room that's as important as a living room), but my experience has been that if you just try something bolder, it will pay off.  Besides, it's just paint -- the materials aren't very expensive, and if you hate it, you can just paint over it!  Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions!  I guess I was leaning toward a more neutral color because I live in a townhome and so my living room flows into the dining room, which flows into the kitchen.. and I wanted a color that would match all three rooms.  I really like the colors you posted though.. so I will pick up some swatches and see how it goes..
