just tell me what to do with this sweater

i usually pride myself on making well thought out purchases, but about two months ago i became obsessed with owning this sweater literally overnight because my very stylish girlfriend had it and swore it was the best thing ever. it was sold out online (at the time) and i tossed and turned in bed that night thinking about how disappointed i'd be if it wasn't available in the store. turns out that it was available and now i own it. i have yet to wear it. i keep thinking that i should just return it because i would have worn it by now if it was that fabulous, but then i keep thinking that it IS really fabulous and i just need the right top to wear underneath of it. i really just need someone to look at this situation from a distance (my ST girls) and tell me what to do with it. keep or return? keep in mind that i think it's a very trendy piece and i have since purchased the cobweb sweater (same trendy shape) that i clearly love more. they are different in a lot of ways too though. do i need both or are they essentially the same sweater?

keep or return?

i am in love with this one. is it essentially the same as the first sweater?

hmmm... i like both, but see what you're saying. i think you should return the first one. while there are definitely differences b/t the two, if you haven't worn the first one yet you probably aren't going to wear it. i would return the first and get something else.

They seem different to me in a couple of key respects: 1) the sleeve length and 2) the overall look of the first sweater is more structured, while the second is laid-back.  That being said, I think you should keep both of them.  I think the first one might look good with a pencil skirt and a black long-sleeved t-shirt or plain cami underneath.  i have stuff in my closet that I didn't wear for the first couple of months after I bought it, and they eventually do get heavy rotation after I figure out what to wear it with.

Don't doubt yourself... it is fabulous.

Hmmm...I'd be torn too.  I say try it on and play with it.  Can you wear something long sleeved underneath it?  Or would you just wait to wear it in the spring?  I can picture some long sleeve tees underneath it that I think would be cute.  I think you could also wear it with that green Target belt of yours over it to kind of cinch in the waist.  Just spend some time playing with it with what you already have and see if you think it's worth keeping then.

Ok, we are living parallel lives (or maybe just the same for anthro?).  I have gone back and forth so many times on that sweater.  I visit it in the store, then make myself walk away.  I think they finally sold out of it in my size, so I may be safe.

I like the cobweb sweater more, but I do think the first one is versatile.  You could wear it over a blouse with jeans:

or over a plum or chocolate brown long sleeve tee.  Then, it could be one of those great transition pieces in the spring - it's 65 degrees, you wear it over a tank or tee....AAAAARGH!!  I am back to wanting it

Ok, but seriously, if you are going to return it (and it's a small), could I buy it from you???

i was just going to post that i already have shirt #2 and have ordered shirt #5 (in dark brown) that i could totally wear underneath, but what intriques me even more is your suggestion of it as a great transitional piece in the spring — i never thought of it like that!

it is a small and if i decide not to keep it, i will SO sell it to you instead. (although you're making me want to keep it now!)

My sister got the sweater back in the early fall and has worn it a lot.  Both as a transitional piece over short sleeves and now over long sleeves.  She wears it quite a lot actually.  I think it's lovely.

Keep the first one.  I tried it on in the store and loved it when I tried it on.  It is so soft and snuggly too.  Love it!!

ITA that you should keep the first sweater.  I love it!  It doesn't seem similar at all really to the second sweater IMO, but I haven't seen either of them on.  That first sweater could get so much use as an all-year-round piece, and I love the idea that someone said about wearing it over a dress.  KEEP it (or sell it to me)!!

Just keep it.  It is sooooo cute!  I am loving it.  I think the two sweaters are completely different.  I would wear something really simple underneath it in white, since it has the white trim.  I do love it though.  If you were that obsessed with buying it, it for sure was the right decision.  Just wear the damn thing!
