Lend me an ear...
Permalink Closed

I need to get this out because it's been a hell of a weekend.  This may get lengthy.  Please bear with me.

Friday - For starters, I am in charge of ordering and getting uniforms for the entire basketball organization that my sons belong to.  200 kids.  We picked up the order on Friday, quite excited that it was ready 2 days early.  We got it home, we opened up the boxes and got ready to sort when we pulled out the first uniform and found 200 hideous uniforms instead of what we had ordered.

We went back and forth with the company.  Now we are waiting and hoping that they complete our order in time for Sunday's Opening Day games.  I am trying to stay positive but it's getting harder by the minute.

Saturday- Early morning we thought that my son was developing an ear infection.  He has had several ear and nose problems so we jump as soon as he complains.  We take him to the walk-in because of course due to the holiday neither his pediatrician or his specialist are available.  At the walk-in they send him home with an antibiotic and steriod med. to clear up what they said was croup.  We were told to bring him back the next day.

Sunday-We go back at 8:00 am for his follow up quite concerned because he and I both were up all night.  He had been waking up screaming and crying all night because his throat hurt.  He was also breathing short rapid shallow breaths which I guess is normal when you have croup. Well, we get to the Dr. and he say that he thinks he has pnemonia.  He does a chest x-ray and sends him to the ER.

We get to the ER and they do more tests and x-rays.  They admit him to the Children's hospital.  To make an already long story a bit shorter he ended up being diagnosed with atypical pnemonia and reactive airway disease (asthma).

Monday- We have tickets to the Gwen concert.  The whole reason we were going was because I promised my son (the one in the hopital that I would take him) Meanwhile it is 4:00 and although he is doing tons better we have yet to be discharged.  He had been on oxygen all night and they wanted to make sure he would be ok without it. We finally get release and go to the concert.  Poor baby was so tired but loved it.  I am feeling like a horrible mother for taking him yet can't  imagine not taking him.

Now, they say bad things happen in three's.  Although I don't consider myself superstitious I am a bit worried.

I have tried to spare you all the nasty details.  I am exhausted and worried about everything.  My son, the uniforms...???  I really needed to get that out.  Hopefully things will get better soon.

i hope you get your uniforms in time. opening day just won't be as fun without the nice new unis.

asthma can be rough. we've just covered asthma in one of my classes...we actually had to go out into the "rougher" neighborhoods and do asthma education and survey knowledge. if you have any questions or wanna talk, let me know. there are a ton of asthma triggers (seriously, asthma is reaching epidemic proportions in the us!) in the house and it can be tough to completely rid your house of all of them. contact your local health department, chances are there are classes that you can take to learn about asthma. (don't mind me...i tend to get a little pushy when it comes to health issues )

I am sorry about your son! Do you have another mom you could pass the uniform stuff onto? It sounds like you have a lot on your plate taking care of him. And the fact that he loved the concert says you ARE a good mom -- he handled it and will remember that you knew him well enough to still take him.

Wow, you've had a tough few days. I hope things start perking up! If it makes you feel better, I get asthma only when I get seriously sick (pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.). I get an inhaler and everything, although I never use it. But it's not a chronic problem. It only occurs when I'm very sick. Hopefully that's the case with your son.

I'm sending good vibes your way!!
