my new fabulous bag isn't so fabulous
Permalink Closed

i've had this bag on my wishlist for a while and my husband (so very generously) bought it for me for my birthday. i was so excited when i opened it but upon close inspection i was really disappointed in the quality. the edges are raw cut and left unfinished (which i'm afraid is going to look like crap after some use), the clasp hardware on the pocket seems a little lightweight (read: cheap), the leather doesn't lay exactly flat where some of the rivets were put in. and although it's lined in suede, it really has an unfinished look to it. it looks like a $100 bag, not a $400+ bag. i'm so sad and disappointed... mainly because it was a gift from my husband. i will be returning it.

now for the second part of this post — what do i choose instead? i already have my brown jocasi, my burnt orange suede tote, a black leather prada and a light yellow (i think the color is called tapioca) marc jacobs multi-pocket that are my everyday bags in heavy rotation. i'd want something in a color i don't already have, leather and $500 or less. i really like the style of this one, but i'd rather have it in leather instead of suede. please post any other suggestions!

Aww, hotcocoa, I'm so sorry the bag isn't the quality it should be. What a disappointment. I'll look around for other options for you.

what about a botkier?  i have this color that i love....

this is a hunter green color from activeendeavors and you can use a coupon code or try ebay.

i also love the moss color (olive is nice too).  i just think green is a good "neutral color"

i think it's the perfect size and i definitely use it more than my eggplant bulga (although i still love my bulga).

Hotcocoa, I really like the Bulga bag you posted.

I own a Botkier Luxe Trigger and an Andre Brueckner saddle bag, both in medium, and I love them. They look really nice IRL too.

Thanks for the review.  I'm really bummed to hear that the bag isn't all that great in person.

So sorry about your bag. Your poor husband, he was prolly really excited to get you something you really wanted and then it didn't work out. I really like those botkiers. They are really classy with a touch of trend. Personally I would like it better without the zippers though. Picky!

I agree with this statement.  Love the bulga though.  I was thinking of getting it for myself for Christmas, but would prefer leather.

I have that purple bulga and it's leather.  I don't think it comes in suede.  But one warning, the edges of the cut out shapes are raw...not sewn or seamed or whatever.  I'm not really worried bout it fraying, but it may bother you.  But the bag's definitely leather. =)

use the code holiday20 to get off 20% at active endeavors for Botkier or Bulga (the style you posted isn't on their site though).

use code KATIE25 for 25% at Testimo and it's on sale for $349!!

also i have the sage studded one.. and i have the say the leather is very butter and soft. i have seen a lot of other bulgas in the store and some leathers in other colors have more a sheen to them but are still very soft. i think the purple one is similar to the sage.. very very soft, supple leather. the only negative with mine is that it looks dirty already but it's also a very light color.

Love the bulga! It's beautiful. Girlshop says it's leather, too.

I like this style, too. Maybe it comes in a different color?

I am not nuts for the Botkier trigger, but I do like this style, which comes in a bajillion colors:
