Maddies question reminded me of something, when will you have a talk with your kids about sex?

my oldest is 10 and i've asked him if he knows what sex is and he said no and that was it. i was hoping that that would get him to ask me something about it. I dont just want to tell him come out and tell him about it. (actually the husband would do it) i know theres books out there, im thinking of buying him one for his age group. I dont know, what are your opionions?

Ummm...my only advice is don't wait until your child is a junior in high school as mine did...they were a bit late! 10 I think is a good age.

I think it is something that should begin fairly early but providing more info appropriate to their age group. My mom was a nurse and pretty matter of fact with us. I never remember a specific talk but more of a running dialog. I think that was really great. That way it is not something strange or forbidden and scary, which can lead to acting out. imo  Hope this helps.

Well, I learned at 4 1/2 because my little brother was about to be born and my mom bought me a silly but honest and helpful book called Where Did I Come From.  She probably read it to me, and then I read it myself when I learned how, and I am pretty sure I was knowledgable about the act by first grade.

I never had to have an embarrassing talk about it with my mom or dad.  As kids age, it only gets more embarassing to discuss with parents, so I am glad my mom informed me early.
