Marciano is a notorious misogynist and he employed a particular photographer who admits to hitting his models(yeah, not hitting on, but hitting). There is a whole book devoted to this, I will research tomorrow and post the details.

Okay, the abusive photographer is Wayne Maser. The book is called Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women by Susan Faludi.

Here are a few excerpts:

Paul Marciano talked his personal assistant out of getting her masters degree because he "doesn't like it when we go to school." He sets his ads in the west because he believes it is untouched by feminist influence. In the American west "women are treated with great respect, but it is assumed they know their place, which is supportive, and their function, which is often decorative." "women want to look the way they did in the 1950's, they feel cheated by liberation,"

Maser's assistant photographer Jeffrey Thurnher explains "I've seen Wayne take a model who isn't cooperating, just standing there not showing any emotion, and push her face against the wall. Or he'll tell her 'get undressed' -in front of him- and if she doesn't, he'll say 'Get the fuck out of here.'

that is so disturbing.  marciano also was getting picketed for months and months a few years ago (and they also got sued) because of their sweatshop practices.
