Anyone see it?

I wasn't expecting much, but ending up really liking it. My life is just like Claire Danes' character!

I recommend!

I have been dying to see this for months but I was away when it came out and I haven't had a chance yet. I am madly in love with Steve Martin and I read the book so I'm really excited. I'm on the fence about Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman but it's gotten good reviews.

i liked it--it got a little slow in the middle, so it wasn't an A, but i would give it a solid B+.  jason schwartzman was the best part of the movie (imho).

i completely agree- jason schwartzman was the best part.  i read the book two days before seeing the movie and i think it kinda ruined the experience for me.  the book was much better (of course).  i enjoyed the movie overall, but didn't like it nearly as much as i expected to.

I haven't read the book, but I really loved the movie. It was kinda slow in the middle, but the end and the beginning made it totally worth it. The first part was hilarious, and the end was...I don't know...insightful? I think the maturity that Steve Martin brought to the table really set it apart from a lot of other similar movies. Both Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman were really great. And Jason Schwartzman's character pre-self help tapes is pretty much exactly this guy I dated last year.

i want to see this, but i have to admit that steve martin (who is 70) playing a romantic lead opposite a mid-20s character totally creeps me out!

I thought Steve Martin totally worked. It wasn't something you really questioned. And he played 50.

okay, i just checked online because i couldn't believe that steve martin could actually be seventy years old.  he's sixty IRL.  whew!

and yeah, he played a guy in his fifties in shopgirl- definitely believable.  and i thought the "sex scenes" were very tastefully done.  you don't ever see very much at all- which was a relief.

eta: i checked IMDb too, maddie!

read the book (great read btw) and went to see the movie- but it had been taken away already!  then 3 days later they put it back up!!!  grrr...  so i still haven't seen it...

hopefully i'll find time this weekend to see it... sounds like you guys all really liked it-

for those who read the book- was it pretty true?  i would think that it was considering steve martin wrote the book AND starred in the movie...
