My Gift Idea Was Taken...I Need Help!
Permalink Closed

so i got home from a looooooooooong day at work, and was going to go do some shopping tomorrow....one item being my bf's christmas gift.  i decided to get him one main gift and a couple $50 and gifts.  well, i called him just a minute ago and he was really excited.  he is visiting his relatives and his uncle who is a computer geek and loves all things computers (and can afford his habit) gave my bf a TUMI computer backpack just because.  which was what i was going to get him for christmas.  .  if i didn't love his uncle so much, i would be super duper

so, i keep a spreadsheet throughout the year of gifts that i can get people (that way it's easy for me to shop come b-day and christmas)....so, this was one the spreadsheet (in the price range), but is it stupid?

Fuego Fireplace Tools  our place is modern and we have been adding items to finish decorating it.  it's a fireplace tools set.  i know it's not super sweet, but my bf is really practical (the backpack wasn't really romantic either ).  i can't decide if he would appreciate it or think wtf?!.  i like it cuz it's almost sculpture-ish (is that a real word?!...like i said, loooooong day).  i would also attach a note about cuddling by the fire or something like that (sorry if that's TMI).  i need some feedback!!!

the other item i was thinking was a steamer (he hates ironing...but then i could use it too, so i don't want him to think i got it for me).

gosh, i feel like the worst gf.  i know those sound stupid, but i would get him a lot of other cuter gifts that are more sentimental and he's just a really practical guy.

please help me i would like to do some serious shopping/browsing tomorrow when i'm more than half-awake.

thanks ladies!

I remember when you wanted to get him that table (did you end up giving it to him?) you stressed how practical he is and how he really likes to receive practical gifts.  So I think the fireplace tools are a good gift.  It looks cool and decorative too.

I really like that set, My only concern is that if you share a home that it is not enough of a gift for him, more for the both of you. But you know him best if he has really been wanting it or things for the house then go for it, otherwise wait on it until another time. I wish I could be more help with alternative suggestions. Maybe some tech gift that he would really like but not nesasaraily(spell) get for himself. Or a really great coat or winter boots. good luck.

I actually think it's a great idea and then just get him a more personal/romanticish gift for a bit less money. Not sure what. But you can also make it more romantic but adding say a throw, some marshmellows, those metal sticks you roast them on, some hot cocoa and make a gift theme around it so it looks more along the lines of "snuggling by the fire" as you said. Maybe that's lame. I stink at gifts for my DH so I guess I should be the last person giving advice!

Yeah, I like it but also feel like it more of a gift for the home.  What about a great sweater or something like that?

~ Sh*t, I thought it was a barbecue utensil thing.  It's for the fireplace! I'm officially an idiot now Well, if he thinks practically I think it would make a good gift.

I really like it, personally.  I like that it's practical and pretty at the same time.  It sounds like he'd like it.

i'm leaning towards getting it with a bottle of wine (one we had two NYE's ago at a cozy restaurant out of town), and some wood (hehehe.  that sounds so funny).  i think that he might like it and it while it is not super romantic, it's suggestive of something romantic.  the steamer on the other hand, not so romantic.

Collette- i the idea of a smore kit, so i'm definitely stealing that.

Duece- you made a good point of it seeming like a gift for me, so that is holding me back slightly.

jacL- what an amazing memory.  i did get it for him with an end table.  i need to take pictures of some things so i'll post pics if you want.

any other advice, yays, nays are still greatly appreciated.

It is funny, because the only reason I remember the table was because while I thought it was really cool, I mentioned that it didn't seem personal enough.  Then you replied that he likes practical gifts, things he can actually use all the time, so I thought it was a great gift.

I like the idea of giving it with a bottle of wine, too.
