iron-on t-shirt question
Permalink Closed

Anyone ever done the print out iron-on sheets and put them on a shirt? I've done iron-ons before but not the print out kind. Any suggestions?

I'm making a beater shirt for my friend that says: I STERN, BRITISH MEN. (Because she's always saying that.)

My sister does that all the time. They look good even after being washed.

where do you get the iron on sheets? is it something you can type up whatever you want on your computer and then print it out?

i've only ever done it with the individual iron-on letters, and it's kind of a mess.

My sister bought them at Wal Mart and I'm pretty sure they sell them anywhere. They are located near the paper for the printer and by the business cards.

You can type whatever you want on your computer or even use images and print them out.

So it's pretty simple then? Should I practice on something beforehand or will one shot do it (considering I've ironed on things before)?

I have no clue as to what you mean but I'm intrigued. Post a picture if you do it!

I've done it before and mine turned out kinda plasticky and cracked after a few washes.  Maybe I was doing it wrong?  Make sure to mirror the image you want or the words will be backwards when you iron it.

HP has a few pages of mirrored letters you can print out. I wasn't going to use those but if it proves to difficult, I might. I can at least print them out to get a good idea of size.

Yeah you put the sheet through your printer just like a piece of paper. If you have a copier you can draw your own designs or use magazine clippings, photos etc and duplicate them.

Two Questions:

1) Would you include a comma in "STERN, BRITISH MEN"? While it's grammatically correct, I think it looks better to say "STERN BRITISH MEN" especially considering STERN will be on the first line (I think) and BRITISH will be on the second line.

2) Is there any font that works best in the transfer?

Can you copy them on the printer sheets instead of printing them? Because that would work much better for me.

I'm a little unclear on your question. Do you mean can you draw directly on the transfer sheet? I believe so.

I'm sorry. It made sense in my head! What I mean is, can you put the iron-on paper in the copier and copy your design onto it using a copier? Does that work?

The kind my sister has doesn't required for the words or images to be flipped. Make sure you read the directions provided inside. If it doesn't say  to flip then don't do it.

If it helps any my sister has the brand Avery. Hers are Inkjet Dark T-Shirt Transfers.

Yes, this is exactly what you do.

I think the shirt will look better without the comma between STERN and BRITISH.  It's grammatically correct to have the comma, but I don't think most people will know.
