Got my Hand Maid bag - now have a question!
Permalink Closed

So, I was very excited when my bag arrived this morning. I love the bag and it looks really nice, except one thing is bothering me and I need to know if I am being picky and should just stop thinking about it!

So, below is a close-up pic of the bag from the website (can't take a pic of mine yet - am at work). If you look at the pic, you'll see a vertical stitch that runs down the center of the bag - this is (obviously) where 2 different pieces of leather are stitched together. On my bag, the piece of leather on the left is really, really crinkly (perma-crinkled -- you can't smooth it out or anything.) The right panel is MUCH smoother than the other one. So because they are side-by-side, you can really see the difference between the 2. I've never seen such a crinkly piece of leather before!

Am I being picky? Should I exchange it for another one (I really do like the bag)? Is this a sign of poor leather quality or something? Help!

You paid a good amount of money, I don't think you are being picky at all.  If it is going to bug you, exchange it.

My t-bags hobo is like that...the leather on one side is a lot smoother than the leather on the other side. It doesn't really bother me, though, because the bag is still very durable and I didn't even notice it myself until I owned the bag for well over a year.

I just looked at my bag and it doesn't have that problem.  I say definitely exchange it if it's going to bother you.  I'm glad you like the bag overall though!

I'm really passive about these things and usually suck it up but Grace is right - it's not a cheap bag so you should exchange it if it's noticeable and is bugging you. It would probably annoy me too since it's not a matter of the front and back looking different, it's messing up the beautiful symmetry of one side!

Maybe you should even call or email them to tell them what the problem is and they can try to make sure that whatever bag they send you next is more perfect.

BTW I'm pretty sure I'm going to order this but I have one question. Is the bag really heavy? That's the only thing which is preventing me from submitting my order.

I think you should send it bag and get a new one.  I know what you mean, because something small like that would irritate me and that's all I would notice on the bag if it happened to me.  I agree w/cc, email or call them first and explain what happened - then hopefully they'll make extra sure the new one is perfect.  Good luck!

Thanks girls. I think I am going to send it back. It will probably bother me until I do, and I only have 7 days to make an exchange anyway.

cc, the bag's not very heavy at all. I'm really happy with the weight of it (until I load it up with my junk, then I will probably complain that it's too heavy!)

I hope they don't think I'm the most annoying customer in the world when I tell them the problem.
