i posted this topic this past weekend and only one person has responded so i am posting it here to get more traffic.  i have NO experienence with purchasing down comforters and need some help....  if these suck- i am more than happy to take suggestions of other types!

TIA!

i am purchasing down comforter this week for my parents for christmas.  my parents specifically asked for one that could be machine washable.  (can they all be machine washable?)

i am looking at them on overstock.com and wanted your recommendations of ones you thought looked nice.  I am trying to keep it around $150-175.  thanks!

here they are:

i don't know much about cleaning them, but i know that when we bought our featherbed, we looked at the stitching to make sure the down wouldn't slide to the top, side, or bottom, (all of yours look the same) and we looked at the weight of the down to make sure it was thick.  we did not pay attention to thread count because we put a cover over it.  i hope that helps a bit.

I don't have a down comforter but my roommate did and she always machine washed hers. So I guess as long as the machine will fit it, there's no reason not to. Maybe it should be air dried but other than that, I don't see a problem with it.

That's my only helpful bit of info!

Personally I am not really a fan of those. The last one looks the best to me but I prefer the squares to be smaller so when you watch them they do not clump up in the larger sized squares.(in my experience) I have 2 and wash them pretty regularly, cause my dog sleeps with me. I have the ones from www.the companystore.com  They have pretty good sales, lots of colors and great quality. I have had my oldes one for 7 years or so and it is still great even after quite a few washings. hth

I have this one and another similar one

I just remembered they sell by weight, Unless you live somewhere super cold you dont need above medium, imo

If thread count is important I'd go with #2 (600tc), and it's only $10 more than the first one. If you are putting a cover on the thing and you want to save the $10, go with #1 (410tc).

The last one just seems excessive...and it's "larger", which means you may have trouble finding duvet covers that fit properly.

no problem I too suffer from selective vision. I hope you find one you like. My whole family and now all of my friends have these. The sales are pretty decent as well.
