kaykay's post about putting up her tree put me in the mood to start thinking about dragging my holiday decorations out.
i need your advice on how you guys that live in small spaces manage holiday decorations. we have basics- runner for the dining room table, stockings and hooks that "hang" from our entertainment center, etc. but last year- i BEGGED for a tree and when we got it and drug it in, i hated it. it was too big and too messy. any suggestions on how to have a tree and still enjoy it? i would love to hear what some of you do with smaller apartments!
hi bex well Iam glad i got you in the holiday mood- I posted pic of mine in home and garden. Once when we was in a smaller apt, we got one of those smaller trees and used that .Ours was the 3- 4 foot ones. I learned that I dont like the mess and fuss with a real tree i use a fake one and use it over and over. since it was not very tall we put ours on a end table to give it some height and that wokred out pretty good .
I have a small fake, 5ft tree. We put it in our living room and it barely takes up any space, but you still get a tree, and it's big enough to hang ornaments from. I also put various decorations out on our tables, etc.
i have a small, lighted tabletop tree with ornaments, and a big collection of smaller trees (mostly vintage 50s), some lighted, some not. i usually cluster them all on top of a big antique armoire i have to make a cool-looking forest. i have some pics from what i did last year--i'll try to remember to post for you. my place isn't tiny, but i don't have much extra space for a huge tree. what i try to do is tuck christmas-y smaller things into all the nooks and crannies all over the house.
I have a red, tinsel tree that's about 3 feet tall. I love it. It's so very 50s/loungey. I think it adds the perfect hip look to the holiday decorative hoopla. I put it in the corner, kinda by the tv (which sadly is the focal point of my living room space). I use pretty tissue paper as a tree skirt and put some small glittery branches on the tissue paper so it looks kind of like fallen branches. To counteract the gawdiness, I wrap wooden beaded garland around the tree and a few little ornaments.
I'll replace a few things in the kitchen with some xmas tins, change out some regular candles for xmas candles and hang up xmas cards and stockings around the windows and stairs. Oh and I add a bowl of beaded fruit (I'm a sucker for beaded fruit) to the coffee table. Tada! A holiday extravaganza.
