I seriously need help from all of you fashionistas...
Permalink Closed

I've been checking this site out for about two months and have finally decided to post.  I am writing today because I really need help picking out some clothes.  My problem is that I'm 5'5 and I wear a size 20.  I always try to look neat and put together but sometimes it seems like I lack something.  My outfits are usually pretty boring.  I'm only 24 yrs old and sometimes it feels like I dress so much older than other people my age.  Please help with a few outfits or pieces that could go a long way.  I am a college student and don't have that much expendable cash but I have saved a little to purchase a few key pieces.  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Maybe a few basics to start--black pants, black boots, black skirt, white button down, maybe a cashmere turtleneck, some colorful cardigans and sweaters and then you can accessorize with fun jewelry and scarves. You could look in vintage shops or ebay for some fun pieces to mix it up or even Claires has inexpensive trendy jewelry.

A nice pony tail with a scarf tied in it could be nice for class or a broach on your sweater can dress up an outfit.

give us an example of some of your outfits so we better help you out.

here are some general thoughts: what about adding some accessories? a cute jacket? layering is a great way to start adding a bit of interest and color to your outfits. have you checked out the threadstyle section on this site? you'll find ideas galore in there. dig deep... look in the older posts too... TONS of ideas.

I have a similar skirt from gap and it is great.  You can do so much with it color wise (mine is black and white).  Definetly check it out.

I too have problems finishing off my look and looking completely put together.  My issue is accessories and I have started to just bite the bullet and buy stuff when I buy a new shirt if it goes together.  I use to hate spending $$ on a necklace and earrings but I've started making myself and it makes a difference.

Hey, I'm a plus size too. Anyways, I shop at Lane Bryant a lot. I like the seven jeans a lot, the trouser-y looking ones are my favorite. I'm also in college, so I know where you're coming from. I wear sweaters and t-shirts a lot.

I work for a relatively large volume manufacturer.  We make stuff for many of the large mass retailers.  So this is where I get to my point.  We manufacture and knock off a bunch of high-end, designer pieces (orig may be about $300 and our knock off retails about $30).  For plus sizes - JCP has A LOT of high end designs and all the goods are stringently tested.  These are great for cute/trendy pieces.  Target does alot of cute sportswear for Plus Sizes.  And Kohl's is also getting up in there with stuff knocked off from a bunch of boutiquey items at a great price.  HTH!

I appreciate and love all of your ideas...I am including pics of some recently purchased items and hope that ya'll can help with accessories.  Also, my biggest problem is finding shoes and knowing what to wear with what.

I have these tops in a few colors...

 and a few of these

pants are usually just jeans or basic black or brown pants.  I also don't own a single dress and only have 1 skirt.

I do have a couple of jackets, such as

Denim motorcycle jacket  and this one (but in black)  and one more Piped stretch twill blazer

Thank you for all the ideas.

For accessorizing & shoe inspiration, I suggest going through pixs in the thread style section. Although you may not copy an exact outfit from there, almost everyone there is good with their jewelry or shoe selections. I go there when I'm at a loss sometimes.

I think that Target has cute jewelry and shoes for cheap. If you have a Forever 21 around (or Charlotte Russe, etc), they're good for inexpensive "trendy" jewelry that can make your look more current.

ETA: And if you need help finding shoes/jewelry for specific outfits, just post pics online and we'll be glad to help!!

Check out ShopSueyBoutique.com too. Lots of cheap stuff.
