Printers for MAC
Permalink Closed

I would like to get a new printer that I would be able to print high quality stuff for my self such as stationary and labels. I am not going into business, but something that would produce stuff that looks like I bought them. Any great suggestions? I have a deskjet now, I am assuming I need an inkjet? Thanks!

i went to staples and they said they don't really support mac.  Well then...  so the only printers that worked with macs were inkjets- they didn't have any mac compatible laser printers.  I just got an $80 HP printer- it might have been on special- works fine.  They had a pretty nice one for $100 but it was sold out.  Just go to that type of store and ask for mac compatible printers- most can do photo quality at this point and aren't too pricey.  Now, ink cartridges on the other hand...

Hi Ladies,

I think most printers these days are compatible with both pc and mac, because the drivers are usually written for both, so all you need is the cable that goes from parallel to mac.  Check the box just to be sure.  Unfortunately, I have no recommendations for printers for you because I don't own one and haven't since Epson ColorStylus first came out a long time ago (and yes, that was mac compatible).

I can tell you that in the world of printers, you do generally get what you pay for.  It might not be apparent at first, but things to consider are the cost of ink cartridges (which is where they really make their money) and how fast the cartridges are used up in the printer.  You might also want to go for one of those cool all-in-one copier, fax machine, printers, so you can get more use out of it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help girls, do I need a laser printer versus inkjet? I just don't know what the proper word is to get quality stationary. Thank!

Depends on how much money you have.

You can find not too expensive black & white laser printers, but the cheaper ones won't give you great quality.  For the average person, a quality color laser printer is so expensive it's out of the question.

Inkjet printers have come a long way, you can look for a high quality one and be just as pleased with the results.

This sort of thing is very subjective, the only way you're going to know if the quality is good enough for you is to try it out.  My suggestion is go to Best Buy and have someone print a sample of the sort of thing you're trying to print.

That is a good idea Ceclia! Thanks!

Lynnie- The Staples here in Atlanta told me that I think by Spring they will have stuff for Macs. I just hate the Apple Store here so I try to avoid it!

Good laser printers are hugely expensive, and Inkjets are really quite good for the money. I was at a stationery store recently looking at wedding invites and the woman showed us the printer she uses to print the invitations (which were really beautiful). It was a regular old Inkjet like you'd use in a home office. Epson is an excellent brand and I also have an HP which is quite nice (both are mac compatible).

Thanks Gruiz! That makes me feel better. I just didn't want to make some things and have them really look half a** when my STD's and Invites were custom made.
