platform beds and box springs

anyone use their box spring with their platform bed?  all the beds i like are platform style, which is cool, but they're not really meant to be used with a box spring, just the mattress only, and i have no idea what i would do with my box spring!  obviously you could put the box spring on with the mattress, but would that look weird?

We use the mattress only w/o the box spring, we have the Malm collection from IKEA .  The platform has parallel brackets hold the mattress up, but if we had a box spring we wouldn't have bought the brackets & placed the box spring inside the platform touching the floor w/the mattress on top.  I hope that makes sense.

that makes sense, i hadn't thought about that...

so does that face mean you don't like the Malm bed?  my husband is marginally obsessed with it, and it is definitely a great deal, but if you don't like it...

Thank you so much for asking this question!!!  I have been thinking about this as well.  I really like the look of platform beds, but do they really provide as much support as the box spring?  It just doesn't feel right to me to have the box spring--does anyone here use theirs with the box spring??

Oh no we really like our MALM bed set, it's IKEA I have a problem with  Amazingly the material of the Malm collection is very sturdy & firm considering some of the other stuff we had from IKEA has fallen apart.  So I agree the MALM collection is a great deal and you'll definetely get your money's worth.

My husband was obsessed w/it too, especially the way they had displayed it in the showroom, so we had to get it, we've gotten a lot of compliments.

Before the BF and I moved in together, he had a platform bed, which was really nice (also from Ikea) - he didn't use a box spring and I have to say, my back always hurt.  Now I don't know if that's why, but it's what I assumed.  When we moved in together, we tried to use his bed, but I insisted on the box spring and it looked really bad/weird in a platform bed.  So we got a regular bed.  IMO, platform beds are meant to only be used w/a mattress and not a box spring, so I'd stick to just the mattress - it just looks to high and odd.  Sort of defeats the point of that platform/lower to the floor look.  That's my two cents
