The radio station where I live is doing a Lost dead pool (like a football pool) and Shannon is getting an overwhelming amount of votes. I think that she's the obvious choice, which means that it might not be her. It would make sense b/c the episode is Shannon-centric and they could tie up all of those loose ends and then kill her off.
It's definitely a female who dies and they are murdered by one of the Losties, not by The Others or the Monster.
Here's a list of the characters (other than Shannon) and my thoughts on who's going to bite it:
Ana Lucia: I really want her to die b/c I find her to be annoying and useless, but I don't think it's her b/c I'm pretty sure Michelle Rodriguez is signed on for 6-7 episodes and we've only seen her in 2 or 3 so far. So scratch that one off the list. I wouldn't be surprised if she's the murderer, though, b/c she's seems like a bit of a loose cannon with the little dictatorship that she's set up.
Libby (the new character from the tail section): Somewhat likely b/c she doesn't seem very pivitol at the moment, but I don't agree with that assessment. I think that there is more to her than we've seen as of yet.
Kate: Highly unlikely. She's too important to the show. The producers have said that there is going to be a Kate, Sawyer, Jack, Ana Lucia thing. We haven't seen that yet, so that eliminates all of those characters.
Sun: Eh, pretty unlikely. I think that we have more to see with Sun and Jin. Their story isn't over.
Claire: I think that it's a good possibility that it's Claire. But then, there's the problem of the psychic who said that the baby couldn't be raised by anyone but her, so he sent her on the doomed flight. So, if he was right, then she won't die b/c the baby would then be raised by someone else.
Rose: No way. She hasn't reunited with Bernard yet and she seems to have some kind of special powers, like Walt. There's more to her.
That said, my guess is that it's either Claire or Shannon. Shannon is the most obvious and least painful to kill off, but I think Claire is also in a bit a of danger, followed by Sun, Libby, Rose, Ana Lucia and least likely, Kate.
I'm pretty much right there with you, Nyla. I find it kind of unlikely that they'll kill off Claire because of the psychic/raised by another issue, but then again that would be a really interesting plot point if her baby has to be raised by another.
I can't stand Ana Lucia and I want her to die, but that's not going to happen. Part of me wants to figure out why she is the way she is, but the other part of me finds her so abrasive and aggravating that I just don't care about her at all and want her to die.
I love Sun, but I kinda think that Jin would be the means to have any loose ends of their story wrapped up. It could be interesting if they were to kill off Sun because then Jin would have a hard time communicating with the others once they get reunited (and can I just say that he seems to have an AMAZING ability at picking up the English language!)
Is there any possibility that Sawyer might bite it? Or have the producers confirmed that it is a female?

I'm 99.9% sure that it's been confirmed that it's a female and that they die at the hands of another Lostie.
I seriously doubt Sawyer will die. First of all, b/c of the preview showing him getting sick and falling down. It's just waaaaay too obvious. Besides, he's too pivitol. The producers have said before that Hurley, Jack and Sawyer represent Freud's Id, Ego and SuperEgo and you can't have one without the others. This is almost a direct quote. I think those three are safe. As is Locke b/c he's just got so much going on and they haven't tied up any loose ends with him at all. Same with Sayid- there's more to his story with Nadia that we have yet to see.
I agree with your point about Jin. His and Sun's story could be wrapped up with him. I do think Sun has a higher likelihood than some of the other characters. I also heard a rumor that she wanted out of the show to go back to Korea b/c apparently, she's a pretty big star there. But seriously, why would you want out of Lost? It's huge in the US and the US is pretty much the top for fame.
If it is a guy that goes and what we've heard is incorrect, I would place my vote on Michael b/c he's just going nuts trying to find Walt and he keeps running off into the jungle. That has to be dangerous.
Yeah, there is no way that Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, Locke, or Sayid will die. I think I remember hearing it was definitely a female, but I kinda feel like you never know with this show.
I'm still dying to know more of Locke's backstory. Like why was he in the FRIGGIN' WHEELCHAIR!!!!!!! I wonder if he's ever going to tell the other Losties...

Yeah, I can't wait to see more about him. My guess is that the same accident that put him in a wheel chair killed Helen. And it was just a downward spiral from there for him. I bet that he'll tell Jack in an effort to make him 'believe', but no one else. And the battle between science and faith will wage on.
I was just reading the message board on www.oceanicflight815.com and the theories are all over the place. One I thought was particularly interesting was that Rousseau kills Shannon because she recognizes that Shannon has some of the symptoms that her crew had before they died. Another theory that I find COMPLETELY implausible, but kinda funny, was that Kate is a cop killer and killed Ana Lucia's partner back in the day, so AL takes her revenge on Kate. It makes me wonder how much of what we think is going to happen (ie someone dying, that someone being female) is actually going to happen.
This is what TV Guide says:
"Now, where were we? We left the island three weeks ago with a stark promotional come-on line: "One of the survivors will be lost forever!" It could be Sawyer, who has a nasty infection, for which trekking through the jungle with the "tailies" can't can't be good. And the "others" are more ominous than ever. As Mr. Eko (aka: the Island Man) put it: "You have no idea what these people are capable of." So death could easily happen. And speaking of dead people, Ian Somerhalder is on tonight's cast list, so expect the backstory to deal with Boone and Shannon."
If I were a betting woman, my bets would be on Shannon.

Yeah, there are also people saying that 'lost forever' doesn't necessarily mean dead. It could be that they get the illness or wander off into the jungle and are literally lost.
I don't think they're going to kill Shannon (even though I wouldn't be upset if they did) because they already killed Boone, and they were kind of a "pair," so I don't know if they would kill off both of them. Also, a co worker told me that the actress who plays Shannon just bought a house in Hawaii. I bet it's Libby, just because she doesn't seem to have much of a function among the group, and I think the other "new" survivors (Echo, Ana Lucia, and Bernard) will all have larger roles in the future.
I just have to say, this is so much more enjoyable that at least one show is thought provoking! It's so much better than me wondering / discussing who the bachleor is going to pick.

I hope they don't kill off Shannon - I kinda like her, only because I like the thing she's go going with Sayid .
Anna Lucia bugs the hell out of me, but I don't think they'll kill her just yet - too much possibility for conflict in the future!
I hope Libby is the one that kicks the bucket - I think anyone else dying would really piss me off! Don't they know we get attached to people? Hmmm, they should create a cliffhanger at the end of the season that has two people possibly dying, and leave it up to Lost fans to vote!

If it's Libby I am gonna be pissed, b/c we barely even know her...like another Arzt (or whatever his name was). I say it's Shannon! Yes, it's more obvious, but so was Boone.

They've already done the whole introducing a new character so that they could kill them off a few episodes later (see, Artz, Leslie) and that's the kind of trick that should only be used once.
