Eeep...I wrote this whole post, clicked post but didn't add a title...gone-zo!  So, take two!

Ok, so this is really not shopping or fashion...but, um...where else to put it?

For various reasons this year is going to be pretty much a homeade Christmas for my little family. Which in it's own way is pretty awesome!  I've already crocheted a new blanket for my little mister, and a mini one for his beloved Henry (his favorite stuffed animal-raccoon).  And I put together a "kit" of crafting supplies as a 'make your own robots' craft box.  But now it seems I've stalled out.  Anyone have some good ideas for homeade gifts?

My son is 8...completely obsessed with Transformers, Legos and Henry.  He's also autistic which means I need to be mindful of his sensory issues when creating gifts.  I'm sort of a hoarder of all things useful...so I've a nice large stash of craft supplies...empty rolls, boxes, egg cartons, milk jugs, etc... and natural elements-branches, interesting rocks, feathers..,

Any ideas, inspirations, craft tutorials welcome!  I just really need a dose of inspiration and then I'm sure I'll be off and running once again.

Additionally, I love the pictures I see from time to time of home decor with 'found' objects and am hoping to create something similiar with our holiday decor.  So if anyone has ideas on that, please share as well!

TIA!

Well, the only homemade gift I am giving this season is infused vodka, and I suppose that would be a wildly inappropriate gift for your son.

But, could you make those jars of dried ingredients for baked goods with the promise that you will make them on the first snow day?

What about a treasure hunt that you design with a map and clues?

Or a jar filled with slips of paper noting monthly dates the two of you could take, and he gets to pull one out each month (doesn't have to be fancy; a pizza and game night one, an extra trip to the park, museum trip, picnic, etc)

If you bought him a dvd you could package it with some hot cocoa and popcorn you already have in the house as a movie night kit.

Would he enjoy building a time capsule? It would give you something to work on over the break from school, and you could bury it once you moved.

Have you checked out Pinterest? There is SO much inspiration there, lots of kids crafting too.

Since I'm not really all that great at crafts, although I try, I googled homemade gifts and found these.

Bottletop magnets

Clothespin Artwork hanger (for the fridge)  so he can display his pictures or special work from school.  THis is the only photo the site had.

Mini basketball game

Bear beanbag (make Henry a friend!)

Party Popper filled with candy or little prizes.  THis would be fun for him to open

Building on the above suggestion and working with your mention of maybe getting a dog someday, one of the monthly dates could be to go to a shelter to play with dogs? I'm wondering if there's even something specific set up in your area to work with kids with special needs and animals.

The Humane Society by me trains people to be dog walkers (and cat cuddlers) and you stop by the shelter to walk and play with the dogs. I am sure your son is too young to do it on his own, as I am sure their is an age minimum, but you could get he training (it was an hour of my time, and they game me a key to the cages) then you could take your son with you.

(Perfect! This would definitely help with the sleep issues! *wink*)

(Awesome idea!  I'm getting to work on something along these lines tonight!)

Thank you so much everyone for such great ideas! I'm getting started tonight on making a 'box of trips/events' and tomorrow I'm going on a hunt through all my fabric scraps to see what I can come up with. D, via facebook, reminded me of the power of fleece fabric so I've drawn out a pattern and am planning on making him a giant body-size pillow that looks like Optimus Prime.
Now I'm getting excited!!! :)

What about a homemade book with pictures of some of his favorite things and a short paragraph about each?

Speaking of beanbags, a ring toss game with each beanbag having a different point value would be easy and "mathematical."

Does Henry need any clothes/costumes?
