make high heel shorter?
Permalink Closed

hello, i did a search for this topic b/c i thought i remembered reading something but i couldn't find anything. anyway, i am buying a new pair of BCBG heels and i really want to wear them to work, but they are 3" and i just don't know if i can stand all day in 3". i can easily do 2.5" or below....
so anyway, my question is, is it possible to take the shoe to a shoe repair place and have the heel shortened? has anyone ever heard of this? i'm not sure if it can be done but i thought i would ask anyway:) thanks girls!

I broke one of my wooden heels and I brought them to a regular shoe repair place and they filed the shoes down to the same height for me.  I'm sure they can do the same with regular shoes.

Depending on the shoe, you can usually do it a small amount- you have to be careful not to shorten too much otherwise it ruins the line of the shoe or something... but half an inch is usually safe. I think different shoes can be shortened different amounts- an experienced cobbler should be able to determine how much is safe for your particular shoe depending on its line. HTH!

This is perfectly normal. I had it done but BE CAREFUL!

I had stilettos changed to a lower-heel so i could actually walk and it's a totally different shoe. they changed the entire heel and didn't just file (or whatever it is they do) down the heel already there.

Also, make sure to mention they don't make it too short or the toes curl up....

GOOD LUCK.
