? on seven jeans
Permalink Closed

I bought a pair of low-rise Seven jeans today at Nordie's.

I tried on two pairs and one was okay snug and the other fitted really snug. The sales person insisted on me buying the really snug pair, saying it'll stretch out. I'm starting to have second thought. It's not like it digs into anywhere it shouldn't but not sure how much Seven jeans will stretch out. Any suggestions?

These jeans were on sale (Nordstrom's Yearly Half Sale just started today) for $109.90 but if these are too small, I need to rush first thing in the morning to exchange them before they're sold out.

BTW, is low-rise jeans still wearable these days?

Look at the tag and see what the jeans are made of.  If they are all cotton and nothing else, then they are not stretch and will likely not stretch.  But if it is 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane they will definitely stretch.

Another thing to think about...do you wash your jeans after every wear?  If so, you may want the bigger pair, because they tend to shrink back a little each wash.  But if you wear them a few times before washing...they stay a little looser.  Definitely wear them a few time before the first wash to help loosen them up.

i think you'll be safe with the pair you have. i had the same issue with a pair of a pockets, and now i regret not going down a size because i hadn't anticipated how much they'd stretch i hate having to tug them up all the time, and i get that very attractive butt sag after a day of wear.

i only wear nonstretch, so i can only speak for cotton jeans.  in my experience, all of the nonstretch 100% cotton jeans(including sevens) do loosen up over time but will recoil after a washing and drying.

what i do with supersnug jeans to avoid the uncomfortable it's-too-goddamn-tight-to-breath-right-now-and-i-dont-want-to-go-out-in-public-like-this-but-i-need-to-break-them-in-AGAIN stage is to dry it briefly (either thru a dryer or hang-drying), but before the waistband dries out, i wear them, and do some ludicrous squats/lunges and sit in uncomfortable and compromising positions.  it seems as though jeans have much much higher stretch potential when they're somewhat wet, and will be stretched out until the next wash and dry cycle.

if you don't want to stretch them out that much, just take em out of the dryer a little early and start wearing them then.  should work fine

hth

ps: i don't think low rise jeans will be out for quite a while, but i dont think they're nececssarily 'in' either.  it's just a matter of different cuts that flatter your body.

I bought a pair of Sevens that fit (or so I thought) that were non stretch and by lunch they were falling off.  I sized down and they were snug initially but they stretched just enough for a perfect fit.  I have found that jeans stretch even if they say they are non stretch.

I agree that Seven's tend to stretch a lot.  I have a pair of non stretch Dojos and they fit fine, but I wish I would have sized down because they stretch a lot during wear. I think you'll be ok with the ones you have but maybe you should wear them for a few hours before removing the tags to see what you think.

I heard or read somewhere that jeans stretch an average of 1/2 size.

I only wear COH's (who are made by the same person) and mine stretched and they will eventually wear to the point where they will be comfortable to put on.

They are great jeans- don't get discouraged! I guess you have to put time into them :)

THANK YOU everyone for your reply! I feel more encouraged with my Seven. (first time, btw)

I've been a little shy with shopping *GASP* since I had my baby b/c wasn't sure if I'd return to my old size.... but with this purchase my confidence has risen 600%. I love the jeans already, can't wait to wear em out. =)

But I think I'll wear em with the tags for a few hours to see if I change my mind but probably not.

Thanks a bunch!
