what kind of antenna do you buy to get reg. channels? I have my tv plugged in, all I get is snow. Is an antenna all I need, or do I need to buy something else?
Okay, now this is going to sound totally ghetto, but when I studied abroad for a semester in Australia, we didn't have cable tv, so we made our own antenna out of a metal clothes hanger and stuck it in the little hole where the antenna goes and then taped it in. It was ugly, but it works!
we've had two antennas. one is the super cheap rabbit ears, which work well for some channels...but we ended up "investing" in a 30$ set of better rabbit ears that adjust a lot better and make the picture pretty clear.

where do i find the nice "investment" antennas, lol. Maybe best buy? Which ones do you have? Can I buy any antenna for any tv?
Don't you live in New York? I think people often have trouble using atennas in the city, but I might be wrong. Have you tried plugging your cable wire in? Every place I have moved in the city the cable guys forget to turn off the basic connection (the networks NY1 etc) so it usually still works. Just in case you haven't tried...you might want to just in case you get lucky.
Yay!! I'm not the only one using rabbit ears here!! I feel so ghetto sometimes because I don't want to have to get satellite when I'm never home to watch it.
We don't have cable, either, but we just bought a basic antenna cable for about $7 to connect our tv. Now we get the basic channels (NY1, NBC, Fox, TBS, etc.) for free and I guess that will do for now.
okay, this is going to sound really trashy... but when lived in brooklyn, i used a hire hanger antenna. i swear it worked really well. the picture was really clear and the reception was pretty reliable.
we have a big set of rabbit ears that aren't exactly attached to the television. Well...they are but the attachment is a long cable and we need to move the antenna around the room depending on which of our three channels we want to watch. At one point we had them thumbtacked to the ceiling. We don't go that far anymore. SO wants cable. I think the cable companies are evil empires. I think you can get them at old school electronics stores where the hardcore wire guys get their switches and other doodads.(like radio shack, as erin mentioned.) I doubt Future Shop would have them. They would probably laugh. Cable snobs!!

how do you make such things? I may as well try this before I buy!
