to tan or not to tan?

I think you should go for it. It's not like you go all the time so I'm sure you won't get cancer. I think you can get cancer if you got all the time.

I wouldn't do it, but as an extremely pale person I'm very against tanning. I mean you probably won't get cancer, but I don't think you should do something you don't want to and is bad for your health just to support your cousin's business. The one time that you go tanning for half price is not going to make or break it. Maybe you could buy some sort of product she sells or something. This is the way I look at it...if my cousin was an up and coming crack dealer, I probably still wouldn't buy any from her. Not to equate your cousin with a crack dealer.

Family or not, I would never step foot inside a tanning booth. You're right, one time probably won't make or break it. However, I think you should be able to support ehr business in other ways like buying products or spray tanning if she has it.

(But I'm a medium skinned Asian girl who tans really easily and who wishes she was paler, so I too have a major aversion to tanning salons and don't understand them at all.)

Ok thanks girls... I don't think I'm gonna do it. I don't think I clarified earlier, but it wouldn't be a one time thing... I'd probably buy a package (like 10 visits for $10 or whatever she offers), but I'm not going to. The crack dealer thing put it into perspective, thanks Maddie. I'm sure she won't be offended if I don't go. She's in a prime location, so surely her business won't fail because I'm not a customer, right

I'm so happy you're not doing it. I tanned everyday for almost five years in a booth or outside. This year, that stops! I'm going to try to only use jergens and mystic tan. It's hard because I'm in MI, and everyone tans in booths here in the winter. But I'm 20 now and scared of wrinkles, skin cancer, old people spots etc.

i used to tan in booths until i recently discovered "Fake Bake". It is an awesome at home tanner that works really really well. doesn't make you orangey or anything. if you decide to get it, make sure you wear the gloves! it will turn your palms orange.

since i found this product, i doubt i'll be back in the booths ever again. i can fake most of what i want and when summer rolls around i usually get tan naturally in the sun with my sunscreen of course!

edit to add: forgot the point of my post what i wanted to add was that perhaps she can get you items like this at a discount instead of actually tanning at her place!

So glad you decided not to do it. FYI, you can get skin cancer even if you just tan every once in awhile. My 21 y/o cousin has melanoma, and she never tanned at all.

Smart decision! I am so against tanning because cancer runs in my family and honestly, seeing as it's really hard to tell when it's just going to "pop-up" in someone, I don't think someone can safely say that even going to a tanning booth once won't lead to getting cancer later. I'm really paranoid but still, if you know somethings really bad for you, why would you go ahead and do it when there are other options (self tanner, spray tanning). And also, I'm super super pale, so if there was a way I could tan without the health risk I would, but for now, I'd rather be on the safe side!

I just wanted to point out how beautiful you are in your avatar with your fair complexion.

I am also fair, and it is really hard for me to not tan in the summer (I REALLY like to be tan) but I know it's the best thing in the long run. I got pretty dark in the late spring/early summer every year in college and stayed dark for most of the summer. This year, I've already noticed wrinkles around my eyes and forehead. So not worth it. Good decision not to go.

I'm fair too! Hooray for not tanning! Tanning is bad, I don't care what anyone says. One time is enough to give you skin cancer later down the road. You can get sunburt as a kid, and develop skin cancer as an adult. Besides fair complextions are beautiful, especially when you throw on some bronzer to give you a healthy glow! That's all you need! Embrace the fair complexion!

Yay for the pale girls! My Mom, Grandma, & Grandpa have all had the worst kind of melanoma. I am staunchly anti-tan. I don't tan anyway. I can't.

However, tan is very beautiful too!
