what should I do about winter gear?

While shopping for ski pants this weekend I totally fell for this North Face vest and jacket.

The North Face TNF NUPTSE VEST W 05, Part# A25304Nuptse vest

Bionic soft shell (Not in these colors)

But togeather they run almost $300. Since we have a long cold winter I think they'd be a good investment b/c I could still wear them on cold spring or fall days. But I am a bit cheap, should I spend them money? North face is good quality so I could wear them for a few years?

Alternatively I could go with these peices from Mountain Equipment

fleece(Again not in the colors) works out to be about $150 but I haven't seen them IRL.

Help me decide!

I think you should get one of the North Face ones and the other from Mountain Equipment.  Or get one North Face one and then maybe wait for a sale to get the second?

i just got a catalog in the mail for land's end and was surprised at how reasonable and stylish their winter gear was.  it seems like it's good quality, but i don't know b/c i've never bought any snow gear from them.  anyway, might be worth a shot--they had a lot of cute colors.

also, the soft shell jacket i am (hopefully) going to get for xmas is super-cool and only $100--from burton snowboards.
