Everyone in my family eats junk so I've started making healthy options for holidays. Last Thanksgiving I made sweet potatoe latkes. This year I'll proably make bean caserole and no-pudge protien brownies.
mmmmm...Thanksgiving dinner! My BF insists on half the stuff being from the freezer/easy to make pile. At this rate I'll never be able to do homeade anything...
Ham (we prefer it to turkey, plus it's much easier to cook)
Stove Top Stuffing
Green Bean Casserole
Roasted Potatoes with Herbs
Mrs Smith's Apple Pie with Ben and Jerry's Vanilla Ice Cream
Last year was my first year cooking (AND the future in-laws came- talk about pressure!!), but it came out fantasticly so I'll probably do the same this year (all homemade- I love to cook!)
chicken (don't like turkey) done in an apple cider brine
Soup: sweet potato/cashew soup or butternut squash soup Salad: Mixed Greens (gotta have a salad at every meal) Turkey (citrus infused) Stuffing: sausage/bacon/apple/almond - the best stuffing in the world Braised Brussel Sprouts - new this year Roasted Garlic mashed potatoes Carrots (havent figured out what kind of twist i'm giving them this year) Some other vegetable Sweet Potato biscuits (if we dont have sweet potato soup) or whole wheat buttermilk
Cranberry Margies sound great and different. I found this recipe on-line. Is it anything like yours? this seems to be a frozen version.
1 1/4 cup cranberry juice 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 cup fresh frozen cranberries, rinsed 3/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice 3/4 cup tequila 1/2 cup Grand Marnier ice
Pour half of mixture in the blender and fill rest with ice. Blend. Repeat with second half of mixture. Makes minimum of two blender batches.
similar, but mine doesn't use any sugar and is not frozen. it's from an old instyle magazine issue. i'll try to remember to find it when i go home tonight and post it for you--it's very easy and delicious.

I'm hosting it at my house this yr. It will be all friends and no family--and I'm kind of looking forward to the break from my inlaws. My husband wants us to do it potluck, but I'd rather cook myself, only I don't have a lot of time and am scared I'll mess it up. If I end up doing it all or mostly myself, here's what the menu would be:
Appetizer--maybe Christine's baked brie recipe
Drink--maybe bumblebee's cranberry margs (this sounds yummy and adorable), will also serve wine, both red and white maybe?
turkey--we will have it smoked maybe at Whole Foods?
gravy--will buy from Whole Foods (theirs is really good)
cranberry sauce--will buy at Whole Foods
stuffing--will make, probably the simple kind (my mom's recipe with cornbread)
sweet potato casserole--I have a great recipe for this that my MIL got from Williams Sonoma a couple of yrs ago. We have to have it every yr now. Has pecans and brown sugar--yum!
baked potato casserole--might do this if I can find the recipe (very fattening an time consumin--but soooo good)
lemon garlic green beans (served cold)--this is a recipe from my husband's family and it is really good!
salad--not sure yet, may do another good one from my MIL with gorgonzola and pears
rolls--need to find a good roll recipe, may also do homemade cornbread OR I might get store bought potato rolls and add this to it (copied from someone on WW forum):
Cornmeal/Parmesan “crust” for rolls--Mix plain cornmeal and fat free, grated Parmesan cheese (the green can kind)in equal parts. Store in a container and keep in the fridge. To use: lightly butter any type of bread or split, dinner-type roll and dip the buttered side into the cornmeal mixture. Place unbuttered side down onto a cookie sheet and broil until the topping is crisp and lightly brown. Keep a close eye on them so they don't burn. Comments: This bread is great with soups, stews, salads, etc. This isn't really a recipe, but is something we've used for years. I learned this from a friend who used to be a Black Angus restaurant manager.
dessert--choco pecan pie (will by from Firehook Bakery) w/ vanilla ice cream & either pear cobbler or caramel apple bread pudding with caramel ice cream
