A friend has invited me over to dinner (she's allegedly a FANTASTIC cook) and I'm not sure what to bring. I can bring either dessert or wine. I barely know a thing about wine. Any good suggestions (under $20 is preferable, the dinner won't be more than 3 ppl) as to either wine or dessert? I'd appreciate where your suggestions can be purchased (I have access to Trader Joe's, Cost Plus, Whole Foods, and Safeway). Thanks!!
Whole Foods has some AWESOME individual desserts - I have had their cheesecake, some kind of ridiculous chocolate death (or named something similar) and these fruit things that were like a little pie with berries piled on top. They are about $3 or $4 each, but if you only have to buy for 3 or 4 people, that would fit in your price range & be extra special. I'd just go browse the dessert section & pick something that looks yummy. I would think you can't go wrong.
I don't have Traders Joe so I can't help there (very sad).

My favorite wine for about $10 a bottle is Ecco Domani. Their Merlot and Pinot Grigio are sooooo good and not dry or heavy. You can get it at any grocery store.

It comes in a dark blue box in the frozen section with all the other yummy-looking desserts. It consists of lots of thin layers (I think there are 7) of cake, chocolate, and I want to say there's either espresso or coffee in it too but very subtle. One look at the nutrition facts is enough to give you a heart attack but mmm...it's so light and fluffly yet rich enough at the same time.
