Accessories-shy......need help!
Permalink Closed

So over the past few months of looking at all of your beautifully accessorized outfits, I have come to realize that my accessorizing skills suck. I basically grew up never wearing any kind of jewelry or anything so I feel kind of self-conscious wearing it!

Can you help me find some more subtle, but still fun, accessories (I guess jewelry, specifically) for me, to get me started? I do have a silver necklace with a snowflake pendant which I love (the pendant is tiny, like 1/2" diam) and some small (1" long) green beaded dangly earrings....and some stud earrings in turquoise and some kind of brown sparkly stone. And that's about it!

I'm not crazy about gold jewelry and I'm not really looking for rings. I'm in desperate need of necklaces and earrings to spice up my outfits. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

TIA!

I'm not great with accessories, but if you are looking to buy some pretty necklaces, I really like turq designs.  If you google Turq jewelry, it should take you to their website.  Another website for pretty jewelry is www.alisonphilbin.com.  she did my bridesmaids' necklaces and has lots of other funky ideas.  I will post a review of turq once I receive my order from them, but they have tons of ideas.

Hope this helps!

Go to Target!  They have awesome jewelry and at less than $10 (and often even less) a pop, you can get tons of cute costume jewelry.

I agree with Target. Forever21 has lots of cute, inexpensive jewelry too.

I'd get a long pearl necklace that you can wear long or doubled... and maybe a chunky beaded one?  Also, I'd get some cool chandeliers or dangly earrings to start, and maybe some bangles.

yeah I was thinking about this too... I don't take nearly enough advantage of NYC street jewelry. My fear, though, is that once I start I will get out of control.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I think I'll start by looking at Turq and hitting up my local Target. I have a lot of catching up to do in terms of the amt of jewelry I own, so it would be good not to spend too much while figuring out what works for me.

Another great resource is JC Penney.  They have their buy one/get one for a dollar sales...great time to stock up.

I was going to say the same thing - try playing with some inexpensive necklaces / earrings first to see what you really like & what works for you. I'm in Dallas & we have an ABUNDANCE of super cheap jewelry places, so I didn't know where to tell you to go. The other thing that really helps me is to start my outfits with the jewelry I want to wear & build around it. I do this with shoes sometimes when I'm not wearing them much. I just think it's easier sometimes to let the accessories inspire your outfit instead of visa versa. That helps me -- hope it helps you as well.

laken - i'm in dallas too - where do you recommend?  some people say sam moon but i can never seem to find anything there- plus i hate the atmosphere.  actually dallas is supposed to have great shopping but i don't know of anything but the expensive malls like galleria and northpark.  do you know of any cute boutique-y stores?
