worst. experience. ever.

Well, my sister got invited to go to a speed dating for Asians event this past Saturday and she wanted me to go along with her. I had to admit that I was very curious to see what kinds of people would show up and so I agreed to go.

I should have known it would be bad as they kept postponing this thing for weeks because they were supposedly anticipating a sold-out event. The event was also held in the middle of the afternoon, which means no alcohol would be provided.

When we got there, it turns out there were like only 20 girls and 15 guys altogether. Most of the girls were really young, between 19-23, while a lot of the guys were much older than that. The first couple of guys I met were decent. One was cute, but kind of a player, which is so not my type. The next couple guys I met were very nice, but I could tell were a little too desperate. But the last two guys I met were total sleazeballs.

One guy would never really look me in the face, he kept looking at my chest the whole time, which made me really uncomfortable. The last guy, named Henry, was just so unattractive and sleazy. Not only was he short, bald, with bad skin, but he had a rude personality. He insulted me and implied that there was something wrong with the way my parents raised me because we spoke mostly English at home. He also tried to make me feel like a loser because I didn't like to do the same things he did, such as bowling. This guy also tried to insinuate that my sister was too fat and "Americanized" for him. My sister is 5'5" and 105 pounds. If she's fat, then I must look like a cow standing next to her because I'm bigger than she is.  Oh, I also have to add that Henry drove all the way from Oakland to Sacramento to attend this event, which was a 2+ hour drive. I also think he was in the market for a wife because the only things he was really interested in was a girl's age, educational background and occupation. But somehow, we were considered losers and not him. Henry ruined our speed-dating experience. Needless to say, my sister and I got the hell out of there during the break. We only managed to stay about 40 minutes, which was more than enough for the both of us. In retrospect, the whole experience was pretty funny, but we both agreed that we won't be doing that again.

ahahahahahaha that's a great story. Irritating, but hilarious. I mean, that guy has got to be CLUELESS to create such a total train wreck in less than 15 minutes!

Oh, how awful!  It's funny, but that's always kind of how I thought speed-dating would be.  I actually have 2 friends of a friend that want to do it and were trying to convince me.  I'm glad you got a few laughs out of it at least.

I don't think I will ever try speed-dating again and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. Like I said before most of the guys were decent, but Henry ruined it for the both of us. He was the last guy my sister and I met. After meeting him, we left as quickly as possible. Believe me, he was that bad.

Did anyone watch PrimeTime a few weeks back? There was one story they reported on where supposedly the new way to pick up girls is to insult them. Girls are apparently intrigued with this method because they are the ones being rebuffed, not the other way around. Anyways, it looks like this was Henry's way to pick up girls. I have to say I wasn't impressed with it.

I didn't watch it but I can SOOO imagine this being some new "theory." Whatever. If a boy insults me, the only thing he can count on seeing again is my back as I walk away. (And yet, I've dated many jerks... hmmm.) But I like to think I'm smarter now. And although I do like a guy who challenges me, I prefer one who doesn't do it through insults.

speed dating for asians?!! in the sacramento area? haha my friend wanted me to do this too, i wonder if it was the same thing.  i'm glad i didnt actually do it!!!  your story cracks me up though, I am always hesitant about Asian oriented things because even though I am asian, I dont really consider myself "azn" if you know what i mean.

Yes. That was my reaction too.

I'm pretty sure it was the same thing. It was hosted by some online dating service for Asians and was held at Tokyo Fro's. I don't regret doing it cause I got some good laughs out of it, but I definitely won't be doing that again. My sister's friend felt bad for us so he offered to let us go for free next time.

On a side note, I was checking out that dating site and like 4 out of the 6 guys I met on Saturday were on there. Not only that, they lied to me! One lied about his age, another lied about his occupation, and a couple lied about how they knew about the speed-dating event. None of them owned up to the fact that they had an online personal ad. I thought that was funny.

I know exactly what you mean! I love being Asian, but I'm afraid I'm not considered "Asian" enough for some people. Oh well.
