Well, the honeymoon FH and I want to take will all depend on if I get my yearly bonus, because I agreed to pay for it. Now, retail is not doing too great this year, so there is a huge chance that I might not get my bonus. Can anyone recommend other locations for us to honeymoon just in case? I don't know if I'm too crazy about going to the Caribbean for our HM. We were going to do Hawaii.
June would be a perfect time to go to Mexico! It's off season, so hotel prices are lower, but the weather is still great. We stayed at Ceiba del Mar on the Riviera Maya, and loved it. BUT there is a lot of seaweed in the ocean in front of the resort, so it's not really "swim-able" off the beach. It was ok for us, because we had spent 5 days in Tulum first (crystal clear water) and the pool at CDM is beautiful.
I loved Tulum too, but the accomodations there are rustic - no electricity.
Other ideas:
Save $$$ on airfare and go somewhere close, like South Beach, and splurge on a really nice hotel like the Delano or Ritz Carlton.
Sonoma/Napa Valley (see my response to sfcaligirl's post). We went this past June, and the weather was perfect! It is so beautiful and romantic there, and so many romantic inns. The lavender blooms in June, so it even SMELLED wonderful.
Costa Rica is still pretty inexpensive. Friends of ours went in August for their honeymoon, and they loved it. They split their time between the jungle and beach. Personally, I would go straight to the beach. I can find out where they stayed.
Anyway, I hope this helps. I remember when we got married, it seemed like there was all this pressure to do something really exotic and $$$$. If people have the money, I say go for it, but I just wanted to relax and be pampered. We live in DC, but got married in Tucson, so we just went up to the Four Seasons in Scottsdale for a week. It was heaven.
I have 2 recommendations for Mexico. Both are in Playa del Carmen and are all-inclusive. The first, Royal Hideaway, is my favorite. It is a bit more quiet and great for relaxing. Great spa as well. The other, is El Dorado Royale. I was just there this past summer. It had a bunch of honeymooners and they always had activities going on. Definitely more active if you are looking for that. Both had great restaurants, and very friendly staff.
