Interview Tomorrow
Permalink Closed

I have an interview tomorrow at an ad agency.  Hopefully, this will go well and I can get out of here.

On a side note (and sorry to keep beating this topic, but I'm annoyed and conflicted), do you think I should say something to the temp agency about the way I'm being treated here and about the fact that they have failed to hire me permanently after telling me they would?  They dump so much work on me and then yell at me when I can't finish everything and it's not fair.  I am also not getting paid enough and I took this job under the assumption that I would be making crap for only three months and then get a decent raise and health insurance. I can't keep going with this pay and without health insurance. I feel like I should just talk to the agency and let them know that I'm looking elsewhere, but that I won't just up and leave here and I'll give two weeks notice.  Do you think that's a bad idea?  I just don't want to talk to my boss here b/c he's kind of an ass and technically, not my boss. All communication is supposed to go through the agency.  Thoughts? Thanks. I'm annoying, I know. Sorry.

GOOD LUCK!!!

You should talk to the agency and let them know how you are being treated at this job.  It should be documented in case someone has a problem with them in the future.  It won't help you, but it could help someone in the future.

If I were in your position I probably wouldn't say anything to the temp agency and I definitely wouldn't say anything until after I had already found another job. In my experience with temp agencies the people didn't seem particularly interested in me and my interests or desires - temp agencies are usually more concerned with filling spots at companies than with finding jobs that best suit the workers right? At least that's the impression that I got from the places I went to. And other than the fact that this company claimed that they would bring you on full time after three months I don't know that the temp agency would think that you are being treated that so poorly that it needs to be addressed. If you were being harassed or forced to do things that go against OSHA rules or something that would definitely be something they should care about and is something which could be fixed but being overworked and underpaid and getting reprimanded are so common in most offices, especially for assistants and receptionists (my sister is on her third such job and they've all been like this) that I don't know that the agency will care that much since they probably hear complaints like that all the time. Not that you are wrong to complain because I'm sure the job is crappy and I know you aren't planning to use the agency ever again but 1. I'd worry about burning bridges/being red-flagged (doesn't really apply to you but you never know) and 2. I doubt it will help people in the future.

Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks, cc.  I was thinking of possibly contacting the agency to express my concern about the temp to hire thing (I actually have it in writing that I would be hired permanently via an employment verification) and also that I was given the wrong impression of this job.  I have drafted an e-mail to the temp agency (haven't sent it), but I'll post it in a new thread to get some opinions on it.

I think I agree with CC on this. Temp Agencies are never really too concerned with the employees they hire. Afterall, they get paid by the employer for filling positions, not by you for finding you exactly what you want.

Chances are, even if they take a complaint seriously, they may never take it to the employer. If they did, they would run the risk that the employer wouldn't use them anymore.

I wish this wasnt the case, but I am feeling like complaining might waste time you could put into just finding something else.

i'm with cc and jocey--i've been sent to some very strange, ill-fitting jobs by temp agencies.  they are way more concerned with putting bodies in chairs to keep collecting their commissions than they are with helping job-seekers find something that makes them happy.

so how did the interview go?

I didn't have it yet. It's this afternoon after work.  I hope it goes okay. I'm getting a migraine and feeling sick, so I hope I can get through it!!
