I am planning a reception for work and we are on a tight budget. The other person that was supposed to be "helping" me blew half of our money on the room reservation , so now we're scraping bottom... anyone have any cheap but professional-looking centerpiece ideas? We need about 12, and have under $100. Keeping it to $50 would be better...
I think your best bet is to buy potted plants from Target, Rite Aid or Home Depot. If the pot is ugly, just it up w/fabric, ribbon, tulle, nice tissue paper, etc.
When is your reception? If its close to a Holiday you could do a pumpkin or poinsettias.
I thought this was really cute & it looks inexpensive, except for the mirrors. You could substitute that w/a tulle/fabric circle or crystal-like plates.
I recently need inexpensive centerpieces for a bridal shower - Where did I get everything? At the dollar store...check out your local dollar store!! They have tons of candles and glasswares - I am sure you can come up with something creative.

i completely agree---dollar store $12 for 12 glass bowls, $6 for some glass pebbles--6 bags and $12 for some white floating candles. You could rent or borrow the square or round mirrors and buy some cranberries like that first idea or a little greenery or real ivy. If you use the mirrors---it will be around $100 and if you nix those, I think you could do them for 12 + 12 + 6 + $12 for greenery = $42

yeah, this is for a work event, not my wedding. I don't think we're allowed to do candles because of the liability issues. plus it's a lunch, so that might be too formal. I'm thinking maybe a pumpkin or some gourds piled up might look cool and fall-y (this is in 2 weeks, so fall decor would be appropriate)

I think the gourds are a fine idea! Maybe in a small basket (from Dollar Tree or Goodwill?) with some leaves tucked in?

Right now, my Costco has big bags of real mini gourds for about $5 each. I got a couple bags last year and they was quite a variety of the cute little buggers.
