pot roast leftovers--best way to freeze?
Permalink Closed

Hey everyone--I tried Christine's crock pot pot roast recipe the other night and it was awesome (thanks again, Christine)!  I want to cut up the leftovers and freeze them, but don't know the best way to preserve it and keep it from freezer burn.  Any suggestions?  Should I use freezer bags or tupperware?  Thanks!

I usually freeze it in a bag and have never had a problem... squeeze out as much air as you can and lay it flat until it's frozen solid (then you can stand it up and it will take up less room- plus more surface area means it will defrost faster.)

Make sure you use freezer bags and not storage bags!  I used to think these were the same--wrong!

I made this too, and it was really good, but I have a question for next time...do you cut up the meat?  or just put in big pieces?  Also, do you trim off all of the fat?

Thanks, everyone.  Beachgirl--I was wondering the same about cutting up the roast.  I didn't want to spend the time doing that since I put it together in the morning before work, so I just stuck the whole thing in there and it turned out fine.  I didn't think to trim the fat though, oops.  Christine, what do you do?

I also don't cut up the roast - my mom never did so I just follow her example. Also, I don't trim off the fat unless it seems like there's a lot of it on that particular piece of meat. Now that I think about it, it's probably healthier to trim it off, but I am usually pressed for time when throwing this together
