i'm not entirely sure, but they're supposed to be good antioxidants. some pills come with egcg, which is a metabolism booster, but most have caffeine in varying doses, so it might make you jittery. i'm not sure how effective it is in pill form or as a diet aid, but i've heard green tea in general is good for you
I get this from Whole Foods & put a splenda in it - I'm so excited because it actually got cool today so I feel good about making my hot green tea every day. I love it!!
I have heard lots of stuff about it helping in weight loss. Not sure how that works other than for me, it is a substitution for my dt coke or a snack, so I feel better drinking this a few times a day in the cooler weather & it's kind of a treat for me.

I drink green tea (usually 2-3 cups) in place fo our crappy office coffee. The office provides pretty decent tasting Bigelow green tea bags...much better than anything that comes out of the coffee machine. I know that green tea has lots of antioxidants. I don't fix mine with honey most of the time because I'm very used to drinking tea straight.
Recently, I've gotten very into the Lemon Jasmine Green Tea from The Coffee Bean. It tastes like green tea and everything I love about Asia...especially Thailand, since the jasmine is soooo fragrant and delicious smelling. Reminiscent of my childhood.
my favorite is tazo lotus green tea. i don't add anything to it because it has a really nice taste. i also like that this particular one is decaf.
right now i'm really into white tea though. i think it has the same (or better?) health benefits of green tea. (someone PLEASE correct me if i am wrong on this) republic of tea makes some really nice flavors. i drink 2-3 cups of the pineapple guava white tea daily and their jasmine is really good as well.
i don't know about helping with weight loss, but i usually go for a cup of tea when i feel the need to snack on something. i've lost a few pounds since using this method of tea drinking... but it's not the tea so much that's doing it, it's the snacks that i've cut out.

I agree about the white tea & hotcocoa, I think it is the same benefits? I love the Republic of Tea Honeysuckle & the Kiwi Pear - SO YUM. I also wanted to say that I add a splenda because I am insane about sweetness - my husband & most other normal people I know can drink it without & it's yummy. We bought one of those Melita one-on-one machines last year & it's great for making a cup of tea. And that was exactly the point I was trying to make about the weight loss - if I do tea instead it fills me up & then I don't eat a snack. Maybe i'll drop some poundage now that it's cooler & i'll be drinking tea again (I hate drinking hot stuff in 100 degree weather!!!)

I can't go without my morning tumbler of green tea. It's the best! And there's something about caffeine in tea versus caffeine in coffee. The caffeine buzz from tea lasts longer for me and it's a mellower kind of buzz...usually one travel mug in the morning is enough to keep me alert the rest of the day. And apparently this is a universal kind of thing, not just me.
There are a TON of great green teas out there. Pretty much everything I've had from the Republic of Tea is good...this one especially:
The Tazo green tea that you can get from Starbucks is good too, as is the mint that LMonet posted. If you head to a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or even Cost Plus/World Market, you'll find all those places have a MUCH better selection of green teas than the average grocery store. I usually use a teaspoon of honey to sweeten my tea, or nothing at all. I find that artificial sweeteners don't taste right in tea.
ohhh, I want to try that one NCShopper suggested - sounds yummy. I also wanted to add that I got this limited edition flavor this weekend & I it - so so good.

Let me just say that nothing you put into your body with help you lose weight. It just won't. Aside from that, green tea is just fab! Lots of health benefits. I just wish I liked it.
I guess it's good that there are lots of antioxidants, but I think it tastes like grass. And I don't like to sweeten my tea cause if there are going to be calories involved I'd rather eat. And Splenda or whatever doesn't taste good in tea. Maybe if I try the ones that aren't just straight up green tea it'll be good. If it's not going to make me lose weight I'm somewhat less motivated to try to make it work, though.
my latest consumer reports says (in a little article about coffee vs tea benefits) that both black tea and green tea are made from the same plant...(oh duh, "tea"), but that black tea is oxidized, which darkens the leaves in the process. While they have nearly the same ability to neutralize damaging molecules called free radicals-a standard test of anti-oxidant power, it's not clear whether the body absorbs the antioxidants from black tea as readily as those from green, observational studies of tea drinkers suggest comparable reductions in the risk of disease for both brews.
it is presumed the same is true of oolong tea, which is oxidized less than black tea.
black tea also has more caffeine, doesn't it? I guess the oxidation does this...? And anyway, consuming a lot of caffeine (more than two cups a day is considered above moderation) increases heart risk, can speed bone loss, precipitate heartburn, anxiety, and rapid heart beat. So I guess that explains in better detail why green tea is better...it has all the benefits and much less of those caffeine risks.
