Creative Suggestions?
Permalink Closed

I got a fabu suprise in my mailbox this morning - a check for $400!  It's my liquidated retirement contributions from my last job (wasn't able to roll it over).  YAY!

I could be a good girl and save it, but what fun would that be?!?

Now what shall I do with it?  I need some creative & unexpected suggestions - nothing too expensive as I don't want to blow the whole wad on just one thing.  Anybody seen anything really great/interesting/different/special lately?

Hmm, are you looking for new clothes/accessories, or maybe something for your house? Are there any cool tech-y gadgets you've been wanting or needing?

Or, (please don't laugh, I grew up in VT, where everything is cheap) $400 *might* cover a fun local weekend trip somewhere, with you and FH.

I don't know if this is your style but I think this clock is super cool.  It looks like it's inspired by that painting of melting clocks by _____ (spanish guy whose name is escaping me now).

Distorted Oversized Contemporary Wall Clock$230 though .

Kisa's right, the painting is The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali. One of my all-time favorite artists. I like the clock, too. *s*

This is about the 10th time I've posted about this coat, but if someone dropped $400 in my lap it would be mine. It actually is going to be mine, but I have had an expensive month so I may not get it until November.

Creative and unexpected, huh?  Well, when I get bored with filling my closets, I turn to filling my house w/ cute stuff!  I've recently grown a fondness for Buddha statues like these (but mine are cuter :

Wood Buddha FaceBuddha Tealight Candleholder

I also recently purchased all new throw pillows for my "fall" look in my living and family rooms (as seen in the Home & Garden threads).  You could get some funky new lamps for your living room or bedroom.  Or some lavish high thread count sheets.  I'm a big fan of really big art like this (which is also pictured in the H&G thread):

I paid like $250, but they have it at Target for $100, just slightly smaller than mine

If you're a homeowner, how about a personalized address plaque instead of the plain-old house numbers.

Or hire a professional painter to paint a room so you don't have to do it!!!!!!
