I'm going to see my little sister cheer at a high school football game in my home town this weekend. I really really really hate that I even care - but I'm really stressed about what I'm going to wear. I was cheerleader captain (oh so important I know) way back when - 15 YEARS AGO, & I imagine I'll see some of the people that stayed there. My sister thinks I'm the coolest big sis evah because I'm always kinda trendy - she says I'm like a grown up teenager - so I want to look cute. I have also put on weight obviously in 15 years since high school & that kinda freaks me out. I'm really torn because this is a rural area & the "trends" don't make it there for a long time, so I want to look like I've actually come from somewhere other than the sticks but not like i'm trying to hard (much like jess going to her reunion thingy!).
Here are my options - since i refuse to buy anything new because I have a closet full of clothes. Jeans, cargo jean capris, sand colored capris with a big cuff, I have this shrug in purple & this orange color
These tanks/ tees that i could wear under them: very close to this in olive green this in black this tee that looks ok under the orange shrug
Or do I just wear a black 3/4 length sleeve top with my any of the bottoms & cool shoes? Or I have a lime green tunic that I like
or this pin up girl tank that I embroidered myself & a choc brown shrug?
In other words - how do i look like i'm not trying when I am indeed trying. I'm just scared that I'm going to get there & everyone will be in athletic shorts & old tshirts & I'll look overdressed. Oh, and it will be hot - like 80s at least.

For a football game a lot of people go casual but I am sure you won't see EVERYBODY in shorts and a t-shirt.
This would look good with either the purple or orange shrug and the cuffed or capri jeans. Shoes, I think you could wear some cute flip flops or even some flats.
I hate to wear anything too girly to sports events because....I don't know...it just feels out of place.
I'd wear the shrug with the t-shirt, a pair of wide cuffed jeans or a frayed denim mini and either sneakers or flips, depending on the weater. Casual boots (like the ones CarrieS got recently or a pair of Fryes) would also be cute if the weather is colder.
And girl, exude confidence...you are a gorgeous fashionista and don't let anybody get you down from that!
I like the tank you embroidered - so cool with capris and flips. I would take the shrug if it's cool, but might be best to keep it simple and just wear a cute top.
I agree with LK - never apologize for looking stylish and cute! Have fun!
