I have a friend who is pregnant and she is very eager to find out the sex of the baby. She has another month until the Dr. will do an ultra sound. However someone told her about a procedure that could be done to find out even sooner. Though it's not 100% accurate and insurance does not cover it. Anyone ever heard of anything like this?
It's a blood test, marketed mostly online. They send you a kit, you prick you finger and they test for the X/Y chromosome. The test I believe is like $50, but once you send it back the lab work is $200. I'll look for a link...
I just read about it in a magazine I got. the one i read about costs $250 and its 99% accurate. if it turns out to be wrong, they send you your money back plus some!
you prick your finger too. I'll look into it later ( gotta get my boy to shcool ) and let you know the website.
also remember...plenty of moms get disappointed when they get that ultrasound and the baby is curled up in a way that they can't tell the sex. I recall a woman in the waiting room who had this happen, she and her husband had both attended the appointment expecting to find out. You can't depend on the sonogram/ultrasound tech to wait for the baby to wiggle around because medically, the sonogram is not done to find out the sex, it's just a bonus to know for the patient.
So, a few people I knew did sonograms at fetalfotosusa.com...where they will spend the time to help you discover the sex of the baby because it's moe like a photo session. Obviously not covered by insurance, but just an option in case the medical sonogram doesn't reveal the sex.

pregnancystore.com $25 for the kit plus $250 for the blood work. 99.9 percent accuracy rate, and will give you double your money back if they're wrong about the sex.
FWIW, my FH is in the ultrasound field and informed me that those ultrasound businesses that exist only to take pics of your babe and to try to find out the sex are not regulated in the same way that medical ultrasound facilities are and their machines can be much stronger because of it. In theory, ultrasounds are safe but very high levels can possibly cause harm - they use strong ultrasound waves to break up kidney stones! I wouldn't risk it .
