this probably qualifies as a current event too. anyway so target no longer sells certain cold medicines that contain some substance (starts with a p and i can't spell it) in them directly b/c it's used to make crystal meth. you have to buy it from the pharmacist and the pharmacy is only open during certain hours. unfortunately i have some strange combo. of a cold/allergies and couldn't buy any of the stuff i would normally take b/c the pharamcy wasn't open (i went to target around 9:30 am b/c i felt like crap).

in general i think the whole "war on drugs" is crap, but this really irked me. most people who make meth are going to figure out ways around this stupid rule and it only hurts people like me who actually need medicine to feel better and can't get it. plus the pharmacy doesn't really have worker friendly hours (and target's a bit of a walk for me), so it's not like i can go back some other time and get it. i feel like shit, and can't get medicine. boo!

plus the hot drink machine at starbucks was down and i couldn't get chai tea, which i really wanted. so i had to go to the other starbucks with the insanely long line. i'm perturbed, which just adds to my overall  yucky feeling.

Unfortunately, it's not just Target doing this.  I noticed the same thing at Walgreens and at my grocery store.   The ingredient is Pseudoephedrine.  What I don't understand is how does putting it behind the pharmacy counter or locking it up make it impossible for meth dealers to get it?

In my state, they're going to make people sign some sort of log so that they can keep track of how much pseudoephedrine you buy.  I have a feeling it'll become bogged down in bureaucracy and won't make any difference on meth use.  It's pretty crappy for those of us that swear by Sudafed for a cold.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well honey!  Zinc lozenges work wonders for making colds go away quicker and for making them less severe.  I hope you feel better soon!

I think they do this to limit how much you can buy at once.  Meth is a huge problem near my old town and I think its good they are limiting the ability for people to buy it that use it for meth.  it just sucks the rest of us have to suffer.  I did hear that the drug companies are supposed to be taking it out of the medicine anyways soon so we shouldn't have problems getting meds.

While all my local pharmacies and Target are putting it behind the counter, my grocery store continues to sell it on the shelf.....that may be an easy option for you!

fortunately i found some old cold medicine so i took that and feel a lot better now. it was just so annoying b/c given the demographics of my hood, specifically we pretty much live in teeny apartments that are piled on top of each other, i highly doubt anyone's running a meth lab out of their studio apt.

it was the target in jersey city, nj. it's a bedside (is that the right term) community for peole who work in the financial district of nyc. most of the housing is apt. in fact there are very few single family dwellings in the area. which as i understand would make it hard to cook up meth in your home, since my understanding is that making meth is kind of stinky.

I think they're doing it at all Target. Both of our Targets have that same med- behind- the- counter thing going on too.

I hope you feel better though!!

Unless they keep an electronic log, what prevents someone from store hopping to buy it?
