October Lucky Mag
Permalink Closed

Yawwwwwn!  Boring!  Not the best issue.  What is going on there?  September's issue was pretty good, but lately Lucky is just not doing much for me.  Anyone else feel this way?  I used to love this mag, but I seriously spent like 5 minutes looking through this month's issue.

Bottom line:  If you don't have a subscription, don't buy this month's issue.  Not worth it.

I of course didn't get mine yet, I always get mine late. But lately I also feel the same way. I feel like they got really boring, there is normally nothing in the magazine that I would wear. I hope it gets better, it used to be so good, now when i get it I literally only take like 20 mintutes to read it.

I think they've been trying too hard (unsuccessfully) to come up with "new & different" outfit ideas.  I've been hating some of the crappy outfits they're putting together.  A lot of it is very bag lady and I can't see anyone wearing.  And many of the clothes they put in their outfits or show as alternatives are expensive!!!!  At least for me.

This is exactly how I've felt about it lately.  The September issue was pretty decent, but October's just wasn't interesting.  And their prices have just gotten out of control.  Like in their shoe guide last month almost every single pair was over $200, often WAY more than that, and only one or two pairs were less than $100, which I just think is pretty out of touch with your average shopper, even for those of us who consider ourselves to be fashionable and stylish.  Unfortunately, it seems like their sister publication, Domino, is following in Lucky's footsteps too with regards to their prices.

I agree.  Is Mary Kate a guest editor and we just didn't know it?

I agree with the bag lady description, and soooooo glad you all mentioned it.  I was trying really hard to keep an open mind when reading it, but it's just not my style.

Plus, you're right, everything is CRAZY expensive, so if I am looking for ideas to emulate, I'm sticking to Vogue or Harper's Bazaar.

I LOVE Bazaar, btw.....it's definitely one of my faves. I agree, I always get great ideas flipping through that one.

agree with everyone.
The mag is so-so, bag lady outfits, prices out of control...

Another thing: what's up with advertisment on thick paper pages? I understand that might be necessary for perfumes, but how about nine west and Kmart? Is it to make the mag thicker? Is it to use more trees for paper, just in case we don't cut enough of them?

And among the organic products: there isn't 1 (one!) thing I might come even close to afford!

I'm late to this thread but have to agree. I really enjoyed the Sept. issue but hated the October one. I remember when Lucky used to be more about emerging (read: somewhat affordable) designers, and new, cool, different stuff. Now they seem to be another InStyle as far as items show on their pages go. I agree that most of the shoes / bags, etc. are way too expensive - at least for me.

And the outfits - don't get me started. I think they have completely lost touch. I groaned at some of the outfits in the Oct. issue, knowing that I'll probably see those on the streets sometime, just because "Lucky says" it's cool. Some of the things they are putting together lately are just crap, IMO.

I agree that's it's lost touch from it's original mission.  And I still think that's it's quite interesting that things that we go ga-ga for here end up in the mag a month or two later  ...
