Vent - My Boss' is living her inner passion on US!
Permalink Closed

I'm so frusterated today, that I'm staying past my work hours to vent about this

About a yr ago, my boss created these thick Powerpoint slides about "Teamwork" etc. and gave us this *class* on it. She only did it one for about 3 weeks when she felt our staff's morale was low. (I was 8 1/2 mths preggo, my co-worker was being deployed & the other was going through a *mayor* breakup . . . I wonder why?) This didn't bother me at first because I guess it was good for us ONCE.

Well a few weeks ago she gave us a 50 page Powerpoint packet about  BRAINSTORMING. . . YES the stuff we learned in Grade School, with the bubble and webs!  She brought out this large easel w/Kindergarten Paint Paper and colored sharpies!  We work in a large open area with small cubicles, so this was very humiliating for all 3 of us to say the least!  The next day we *brainstomed* on business related issues that we pick out of a cup full of little topics (think secret santa style) and have been every other day for 2 weeks now, easel and all.  After her whole *lecture* she goes back to her desk and types everything from the white banner paper onto charts and bullets and gives one to each of us for us to think about.

She gets really excited about the whole thing and spends hours working on this stuff, which we all think is worthless!  We've been going w/the flow but today she crossed the line  She emailed us a spreadsheet full of "Life Skills" sentences & tomorrow (remember in the middle of the entire 2nd floor) we're ALL going to share what we like, hate and want to improve in our lives & work!  I remember taking that class my FreshM year of HS!

I found our from another supervisor she has a teaching degree and has tons of self help books in her drawer.  I remember seeing her highlighting & underlining one once, but never thought they were for us!   I feel she should be a professor at college if that is what she truly loves to do and not practice on us!  It is very humiliating and after the whole *lecture* people from the nearby cubicles come over to tease us about it.

Thanks for listening!

Oh my god. This sounds like an episode of "The Office".

I'm guessing your boss doesn't have enough work to do if she's spending time on all this crap. She's treating you all like children and that's just rude and humiliating. Is there a higher-up boss that you could speak to. Maybe have your two other coworkers do the same so that it's clear that there's a REAL problem, and it's not just you being overly sensitive.

Her boss probably has NO idea she's spending so much time on schoolwork for you all. He/She might be very interested to learn what your boss is doing all day.

I'm sorry to hear this is happening to you, but it's one of those classic "you'll never believe what happens at MY office" kind of stories.

HAHAHAHAHAA....oh my god!  I'm sorry to laugh, but that is funny stuff!  I'm so sorry you have to deal with that!!!  Yuck!  I think gruiz is right:  your boss has WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on her hands.  Her productivity can't be very good and she's wasting your time too and lowering your productivity.  Her boss should be made aware of what she's doing, complete with the 50 page PP handout and the bubble charts and everything.  Her boss needs to know exactly how much time she's put into this stuff.  One of two things will happen here:  1)  your boss's boss will tell her to stop, or B)  Your boss's boss won't have a problem with it, in which case you'll have to, unfortunately, go along with it.

If you have to continue to deal with it, feel free to vent here.  And watch The Office on tv--it's hillarious and your boss sounds exactly like the boss on the show!

Oh my god. This is hilarious. Wow. She is really being condescending, too. I know the type, and I'm really sorry. I hope it doesn't get to you too much. At least it sort of beats working, right? And why doesn't she have anything else to do?
