Shoes Question - 2 Fold
Permalink Closed

How many prs. of shoes do you own, and HOW do you keep track of them, if at all? After updating my Excel spreadsheet last night (that's how I keep track, after have gone out and brought the SAME SHOES one time), I now have (GASP!) OVER 100, close to 200 prs. of shoes, and I know half of them I don't even wear. I have sold some to a girlfriend of mine in the past, and yet I still have TONS of shoes. LOL I think I'll weed thru them again....

I wear a size 9.5 - 10 if you think some of yours will fit me. *s*

I have 29 pair, and 3 pairs of boots (not counting things like ON flips and true athletic shoes that I don't wear for any fashiony purpose). You are way ahead of me!

Oh, and they sit in their boxes on a shoe rack in my closet. That's how I keep track of 'em.

close to 200 pair?!!! where do you store them all, girl? haha! wow.

right now i have about 20-25 pair (not including all my athletic shoes and flip flops which don't count, right?) but i recently sold a ton (maybe 20 pair) on ebay that no longer worked for my lifestyle. (i used to go to the office everyday, now i don't kinda thing) i don't buy a ton of shoes although i love them as much as the next girl. i either spring for a really expensive pair that i'll have forever (hopefully) or a couple of pairs that will be my signature shoe for the next season or two and wear them to death so that there is nothing left of them when they go out of style. as far as storage goes i keep them in their original box and stack them or put them in clear plastic boxes with lids so that i can see them all.

I probably have about 55 pairs of shoes & 6 pairs of boots? I also keep mine in their original boxes & they are stacked on both sides of my real closet & my winter shoes (boots) are in another closet waiting patiently for cooler weather.

I don't really keep track of them, although I will admit to going through & photographing them all, building outfits with them on a word document. If I couldn't work them in or didn't care to, I sold a bunch on ebay - of course I replaced them with new ones, so i am about at the same #.

I'd venture to say that you really can't possible "need" - even using that word in the most liberal sense - 200 pairs of shoes - my advice (not that you are asking for it) is to sell / give away what you don't love, what hurts, etc. Let someone else enjoy them. Then you'll have room for shoes you love & more importantly - WEAR. But as my MIL says, "I am a collector" - so if you feel that way, keep them all!!! LOL

LOL

atlgirl - I'd LOVE to hook you up w/some shoes, if you're REALLY interested; I really wish I had a digi. cam, so I could post some, but since I don't....... WOW! Another sz. 10 lady in the house, not too many of us out there......LOL

hotcocoa - YES! Almost 200 prs., and trust you me, I have given away/sold quite a few, but seems like every time I go shopping, I come home w/about 1 or 2 new prs.! LOL Yes, I ALSO have a shoe problem, but I'm TRYING to work on it. I brought a BUNCH of those clear shoe boxes back in June, so I could SEE what all I had, they came in quite handy.

laken1 - you're right, I don't NEED all those shoes, I more or less "WANTED" them, most of them were impulse buys, just b/c they looked good, etc. LOL Maybe I am a collector of shoes, but man - to have all those shoes, and to NOT wear them, seems like a waste of $$$ to me! LOL I may hit them up AGAIN this weekend, see if I can make some cheddar (money) on the side, before my trip next week, that'd be GOOD! LOL

What a good number of shoes to have? LOL

Wow! What a collection!

I have about 55-60 pairs of shoes. Mine are arranged on shelves by type (black heels, colored flats, etc) so they're right in front of me when I am getting dressed.

I don't have room for more, so when I get a new pair, one has to go!

i have NO idea how many pairs i have... probably close to 75????  i'll have to count when i get home...

my mom and dad instilled a love for shoes in me at a very young age... they are both clothes horses but shoes were their addiction... so i completley blame them for my problem with saying no to buying a pair of shoes!!!

edit: forgot to mention how i store them... i have some in original boxes and the rest are lined in the closet.  once i get my elfa system (!) i want to have them in a shelf system of some sort- or my ulitmate fantasty of plastic boxes with polaroid pics attached!

I am between a 9 and a 10 too =)

I try to keep them in their original boxes and then line them under my bed or stack them in the closet.  I'm going to try taking a picture of them all too, and taping them to the box, hehe.  I would love to have them all out in a huge closet- Marah Carey style, but I would be scared that they would get dusty, plus I have no huge closet.  I have maybe...25 pairs of shoes not counting flip flops and athletic shoes.  I'm sure I have more at my parents place, but those dont really count since i haven't worn them in years.  200...wow.  I love shoes, but I try to buy just a few per year because of the storage situation.  I am a sucker for nice shoes, so it keeps the cheaper shoe purchases at a minimum, and since I can't really afford to splurge on manolos...lets just say it keeps shoe purchases at a minimum in general.  I had a binge in the spring- rocketboy boots, ferragamo slingbacks, mayle wedges, seahorse miss sixty sandals, but since then I've just bought two pairs of shoes on super sale (lulu guiness wedges for $60 and kenneth cole shoes for $50, see below)

I think at last count I had 33 pairs of shoes (including flips and atheletic shoes). I store them in various places.

  • Everyday pairs sit right by my door for easy access (running shoesm, Birkenstocks, Uggs) so I can get the mail/take out garbage without fumbling for shoes in my room at the opposite end of my apartment.

  • My heels sit on a shoe rack I bought from Target in the open in my bedroom. This way I can't forget what shoes I own. My bedroom doesn't get much light or dust so I'm not too worried about my shoes' wear and tear. Underneath the shoe rack I have cheap flats (Target ballet flats, Mocs) and all my flips.

  • Boots are lined up in my closet, as are my sneakers.

I'm a total sucker for a cute cheap pair of shoes, but I'm trying not to buy shoes for the sake of buying shoes. I need to replace a number of pairs though, so I'm hoping to get nice replacements.

This is one area I am really trying to work on.  I probably have maybe 15-20 prs., including flips and old shoes I never wear.  I'm going to work on building more of a shoe selection since I've realized how much they can step up your look.

Close to 300.  But I should clarify the reason I have so many, is that I buy shoes and jewelry and most of my other clothing is generally kept basic (dark jeans/trousers, turtlenecks in winter, crewneck sweaters, crewneck tees and or v-neck tees/sweaters).  So, when I go shopping, I usually come home with 2-3 pairs of shoes.  As you can see from my posts, I buy a pair or two or three of shoes every week it seems.

That being said, the reason I have close to 300 pair is that I was a wear tester when I worked at the Payless Shoe Source Corporate office.  I was the only size 7 in the merchandising department, so they would give me a pair of every shoe that came in the door to wear.  Payless also has another store called Parade of Shoes (or they did, not sure if they still do).  These were nicer, leather shoes--kinda like a Steves shoes.  Anyway, I got a pair of all those shoes too.

However, the best part of the job is that the buyer would buy nice, high-end shoes to show to our factory vendors in China (this is how they get the knock offs to look as "real" as possible--NOTE: Seen the Weaverr?).  Anyway, the buyer had a bigger foot, she was my lunch buddy and gave me the shoes at the end of the season (some were $500 and up and some were middle range--Steve Madden, etc.).

So, that's my explanation for my disgusting shoe buying.  In terms of storage, I have an entire wall of my walk in closet lined with cubbies.  I also hanging bags on the two doors on my closet (each one holds 24 pair).  Finally, the entire perimeter of the floor of the closet is lined 3-deep with shoes.  I have made it my personal goal to only buy 2 more pair of shoes for the next six months (one pair of heels with a wood platform and a pair of black stiletto boots--I know stacked heel is in, but when I go out, I want my stilettos--good thing I got the Marc boots from scoop purchased before this post!!).

Mine is going to get much smaller too...because I'm moving at the end of this month and since I don't wear half of them (probably more like 2/3 of them), it is time to thin them out.  I'm hauling them all to goodwill.

I wish I liked all the shoes I owned...THEN it would be a great collection!

LOL Thing is, I 'think' I like MOST of my shoes, or I wouldn't have brought them! LOL And sure ENOUGH - I have ANOTHER pr. to add to my collection! LOL It was a pr. of brown shoes, and that, to me, is a neutral color, so I think I'll be OK w/those! LOL
