STYLETHREAD -- LET'S TALK SHOP!

Hi guys! It's been a really long time since I've posted.... I've been a member forever (started with the lucky crowd... moved to FH.. and now here.) but lately I've been MIA! Anyhow, just wanted to reintroduce myself. :) 

So I have a question: I'm obsessed with boots for fall, and I have a few fun pairs, but what I'm missing are staples. I live in New York City and this is my first fall/winter here. I need semi-cute but mostly utilitarian rain/snow boots, but I'm not sure what's still "in." Are the rubber wellies still in? What kind of non-suede snow boot would work for my walk to work while trudging through the snow? I can't really find true snow boots that aren't awfully ugly, and all of the cute ones are suede and thus defeat the purpose. Your thoughts/suggestions? TIA!
