satin skirt - outfits?
Permalink Closed

I have a deep navy blue satin (just a subtle sheen, not super-shiny) pencil skirt that... I've never worn.

It's very flattering, but I don't know what to wear with it! Maybe the problem is that my clothes are very classic/subdued for the most part, so the combination of fairly tight and satin seems a little much. Please give me some ideas - I know you all are so creative with outfits!

Just from the description I'm jealous!  I love pencil skirts, but alas, I only own one.  That's actually one of the things I'm thinking of adding more of to my wardrobe...but enough about me!

Hmmm...I see your pencil skirt with a crisp, white button-down, maybe with very faint contrasting white stripes?  Whatever you decide on, I think it should be slim fitting, and shouldn't draw attention from the beauty of the skirt.  I definitely think the skirt should be the focal point.

Where are you wearing it to? Work? Out on the Town? A Date?

I hadn't thought about where I'd wear it. Not work. I'm in college, so it'd be out of place in class. Cocktail parties, out to dinner, etc. are the most likely.

I think it would look pretty with a little camisole and a silver sequined shrug.

I envision a mustard color sweater. Something ultra-feminine or even a turtleneck would go great with this color and style of skirt.

I think you should pair it with a chunky knit sweater, tights and round toe pumps - keeps it from being too dressy and therefore unwearable.

i have a black one i wore to death last year, so i've pretty much worn it with everything -- a 50s secy look with blazer w/peplum waist, vintage top, fishnets/tights, RT shoes; a twist on preppy with button down and sweater, patterned tights and either boots or heels, a fitted turtleneck and leather boots to toughen it up and make it less dressy.

for navy, here are some idea:

  • orange or red sweater/t-neck and brown boots/pumps.

  • also like aqua with navy, so maybe a swtr in that color and red or burgandy shoes

  • magenta or fuchsia blousy/floaty top to play up femininitygrey tights or and black/blue mary janes, RTs

  • i like the idea of a white button down and brown access. or add a wide belt to make it a little trendier

  • or add some texture on top with a fitted brown blazer in suede, corduroy or velvet.
