can anyone suggest cool lamps that will go w/ dark wood and this couch? oh but our couch isn't the color pictured, it's sage velvet and i also want to buy the cordovan velvet slip cover so maybe a lamp that will go w/ both colors?  oh and our end tables and tv table are dark wood.  any ideas?

here's the sage: Sage Velvet here's cordovan:  Cordovan Velvet

obviously, when the couch is sage it's not cordovan, i just need lamps that will go with either.

tia peeps!

what is the overall theme/era/idea of your place? we could go in a ton of different directions here. i think domino was showing a bunch of groovy lamps.

i love white ceramics. the way jonathan adler does them specficially is very cool. here are some options (but they are pricey i warn you...). they all pretty much come in either white, beige, or blue.

$500
$330

$375
$420 love this color with your sage and red

These are from Velocity Art and Design

These are $86 and the base is separate.

I really like these 2 lamps, from C&B, and they will be a great contrast to the dark wood tables and to the couch (both sage and cordovan!)

Etched glass base.....very cool IRL!

I love this lamp!  Very cute and fun.  Makes me smile!  Don't know if I would use it in real life though, except a child's bedroom.

Have you ever checked out Domino magazine?  It's like Lucky for home design.  They have a whole section devoted to lamps in this month's issue, so you may want to check it out.  Their prices are pretty high, but you may find a lamp in there with the right look and you can probably find cheaper versions elsewhere.

As far as finding a "theme" goes, you will want to figure out if you want your place to have a "warm" feel to it or a "cool" feel.  Warm and cool colors are just like the warm and cool colors they talk about when you have your makeup done.  Accents like brushed nickel and wood usually fall in the warm category and accents like stainless steel are usually in the cool category.  Once you determine if you want your place to be warm or cool, it's just a matter of picking out things that are in keeping with that vibe.  Carpeting, window treatments, furniture colors and textures, and details like lamps and even switchplates can all come together to help you achieve the look you're going for.

If you get a chance though, take a look at Domino--there are a bunch of really cool lamps in there and you might find something you like that suits your needs.

well (and not that my current apt personally reflects this! but....) i think of things like the couch.. the paint color.. as backdrops and things like lamps, pottery, art, etc as the accessories.

one truly groovy lamp can create a completely different vibe in your place. i would take a note from your clothing to pick a theme for your apt. also like accessories, lamps, pillows, throws, etc can be rotated seasonally or every few years to give you a fresh look. have you seen in domino how the base a room on an outfit? maybe look through your closet and see what colors you seem most drawn to and work off that palatte.

i know that yvonne force had alex katz, the painter, pick the paint colors in her apt based on her skintone. the idea was that she would look great in each room. this of course is an extreme example, but i think the philosophy of trying to personalize your surroundings to compliment you is a interesting idea.

i'm rambling and don't know much about home decorating, but you've got a great sense of style so why wouldn't that easily translate to your home?!
