Okay, I've done it. After agonizing over what kind of dress to wear in my best friend's wedding I finally went to the dressmaker and made up my mind! (I got to choose it since I'm the only bridesmaid and the only requirement was that it be brown, like the accent of her dress.)
And for only $250 the dressmaker is going to combine this glorious Alexander McQueen with the equally fabulous Diane Von Furstenberg.
Here's a picture of the top part of the dress:
The bottom is going to be a bit more flared and flowy with these diamond cut-out inserts towards the bottom (although not as prairie dressish):
Can you picture it? She drew a sketch and attached these two pictures to it. It was so beautiful.
What do you gals think?
Oh by the way, my friend's wedding dress is soo beautiful too! It's a tiffany blue with all these extravagant bustles and bows on the bottom and a beautiful corset on top. It has the brown of my dress in the piping around the corset, the corset ties, and in rosettes holding the bustles up in the back.
OMG that is so beautiful! You'll definitely have to show us picks! How long is it going to take to make the dress?
She said we'll have the first fitting in 3 weeks. I can't wait. I really wanted something non wedding-ish and something I could wear again. I mean, if she can recreate designer dresses for $250, I'm so going to be her best customer!!
*DROOL* That sounds soooo fabulous! I only wish that I was able to have an equally cool dress... it totally sounds like something that you will be able to wear (as it is brown- not to bridesmaid-y and the top is very versatile) HECK! I would settle for that Alexander McQueen dress as is- it's GORGEOUS... and by the way, PLEASE post a picture of your cute self in the finished product!

Both of those dresses sound amazing. I love the colors of the wedding dress! How cool and different! About the tailor--it is my ultimate fantasy to go to Tokyo or another country with a plethora of talented seamstresses and find someone to design some georgeous dresses. We will be moving overseas some day, so I started a file of dresses that I love (from magazines mostly) just in case. It has been such a fun little hobby!
