Isn't it funny how the momentum of work increases in September? I think this must carry over from beginning school in September. I just think it's amusing our culture has ingrained increased work momentum at a specific time of year. Just observations.
I also find it's a good time to make big changes. Anyone else with me here?

Fall has always been my favorite time of year, for many reasons. But one of them is the 'fresh start' feeling you get as a child going back to school. And, I still get that feeling today.
Also, with the summer being a time with so many vacations for staff, things naturally slow down and ones expectations are relaxed. But, the Tuesday after Labor day everything is back in full swing.
I noticed this some at my previous employer, but now that I work for a University, it is more than obvious. Students come back to campus and everything begins to buzz.
Yes. And, whether or not you're ready for that buzz/flurry (and all the big changes that come along with it), you often don't have a choice! The past several years (at least 3), I have not been ready because my summers have been extremely busy with weird projects. I'm finally ready to relax after finishing things up, and then everyone else is just getting started -- and assumes I'm ready to go too. I feel very out of sync with it all (day-to-day, year-to-year, season-to-season).
Interesting points about different industries' variance or compliance with increased fall momentum. The big push in fall is totally expected with a university based environment/economy, but then it's interesting to consider the impact of an industry that doesn't coincide with that. When I used to work on automotive catalogs, I was working my tail off to meet new new model year releases in the fall, while the automaker/client was down to a snails pace as their big push ended in early summer.
Good point about New Year's, Elle. I think fall resolutions may be easier to adapt to... hmmm

It's my birthday month, so I LOVE IT! LOL It's also 'supposed to be' the beginning of fall, on the 23rd (yesterday). But, um, it was in the mid 90s here yesterday. WTF! I love the changing of the leaves, so pretty!!!

I love that fall "get back to work" feeling. I think it does stem from school days. The freshness in the air and the feeling like you can accomplish anything.
In PR and media, editors are working on December issues in late August and early September, so that can be a busy time. Some retail is probably similar, stores needs their orders done for Christmas.
September birthdays: mine was the 18th, w00t. I used to love my birthday month more when it wasn't so hot. Happy birthday to LovelyLady and me!
I love that fresh start feeling! I have it this yr more than ever b/c my oldest child started kindergarten. The feeling is contagious and has bled into my life and mindset - ie I've made a list of goas, etc. to accomplish before next summer (a defining time for me b/c we will be leaving the country in which we're currently living).
I've always noticed in the finance field that the fall, Sept through early Nov, is the last window of opportunity to push through any final mergers, acquisitions, debt or equity offering before the holidays where people start going on vacations again and things just shut down for the holidays and then year end reporting in January and February. Then around April things will pick up again.
