And yet some more advice needed...

Okay, you may all think I'm nuts for this, but here it goes....

I'm seriously thinking about going back into retail and here's why:

At the job I'm currently at, I'm going to be forced to take a second job, which will require night and weekend work, which was my biggest problem (other than the crazy boss, who I would not be working for again) with working in retail.  So, if I take a second job in retail (which I'm going to have to do if I want to pay bills), then I'll have two jobs that suck instead of just one (crazy logic, I know).  I know that I would make tons more money in retail management, too, than I'm making at this job. I'm just tired of being treated like a sub-human.  Today, I have had to order lunches, call for dinner reservations (as if these people can't pick up a phone), make limo reservations (again, pick up a phone), mail some crap and stuff brochures. At least in retail, I was the manager and wasn't treated like a peon (except by the crazy boss, who like I said, I would not be working for again).

Thoughts? I'm going crazy here!

what about trying to find a job at the school you're going to? Not a student job, but a "real" job. That's what I do, and while it's not a job I'm interested in it's decent. I am basically a secretary/office assistant in one of the University's fundraising offices. I don't always have a ton to do so I get bored sometimes, but there's plenty of down time to do homework/read/do whatever I want...when I want a project to work on, I can usually ask and be given one, and everyone realized that the office would fall apart without me so they respect me and treat me like a human. The pay is decent PLUS it pays 98% of my tiution, so no loans...which also motivates me to get through the more boring days.

I've tried that, but there aren't any available that I'm qualified for.

I suppose I should also add that I might have the possibility of an advertising internship. It pays $20/day which, is obviously not enough, but if I work in retail as well, maybe I could swing it.  I just don't know.  My job situation is a mess and I'm just sick of it. It's been three years of this crap and I want to tear my hair out!

Have you looked at other nearby colleges/universities? they often have a reciprical tuition benefit so if you work at one you can get discounted tuition at another.

if you really think that you want/need another advertising internship (haven't you done a lot already?) and if the internship would allow you to work on the creative aspects of advertising, then do when you need in order to take it. But if it's going to be the same as the ones that you've had before and you won't get anything valuable out of it, is it really worth your time and the energy that it would take to work 2 jobs and only really be paid for one? I know that you hate where you are now, but you need to make sure that you won't stress yourself out even more by taking something else that your not happy with.

There are a ton of colleges around here, so maybe I'll try that.  Good idea. Thanks.

The internship is basically more of the same thing that I've already done--copywriting, publication design, proposal writing, press releases, media kits, yada, yada, yada. It kills me that I've done three internships already and I still can only get another internship and not a job.  Ridiculous!  I don't know what I'm going to do.
