Does anyone do anything to the soles when they get nice shoes? Maybe put some sort of rubber coating on the bottom or whatever? I'm just wondering how to make them last better. Hehe, for all the shoes I have, you'd think I'd know, but I am still young and naive
hehe...I take my nice shoes (my Sigersons, Chanels, etc) to the cobbler and have them put a thin rubber sole on the shoe to increase traction and for better wear. I also take shoes that I need to last a long time (like the Kenneth Cole boots that may be the only pair of boots to ever get over my calves) to get soled and resoled. I don't think the cost is too exorbitant...I paid a ton only because I want to a fance-schmance place in Beverly Hills (Arturo's Shoe Fixx).

my shoe cobbler does the same thing for me. i want to say it is around $12 to get the rubber sole on my good shoes.
NYC pavement is hard on the feet! I always get my shoes soled. Otherwise it damages the shoes or wears the existing sole so thin that it's uncomfortable.
Yes, I always have a cobbler put a protective sole on expensive shoes. Especially a shoe w/ a soft leather sole. The soles of my Manolos were nearly ruined after 1 wearing (it was raining) and I learned my lesson about delaying the rubber sole.
If you ask for a "protective sole" your cobbler should know what you are asking for. IMO, it doesn't change the look of the shoe at all unless people are looking at the bottom of your shoe. The soles have only a slight bit more padding, so I'm not sure that it changes the comfort factor too much.
