So today I called the DM in the area that I will be moving to, and she voicemailed me back saying that there are no management positions available. However I should call her back when she gets back from vacation next Monday. I'm pissed off. By the tone in her voice, she sounds like she's never heard of me, even though I told my DM 2 months ago that I was moving to Raleigh and I would like to transfer. I think my DM did not even talk to the DM in Raleigh to confirm anything, now I am extremely pissed!!!(See my previous post about this woman) So I voicemailed the DM in Raleigh saying that I am moving in 2 weeks and I need to know if there is positons available somewhere, even if i have to commute outside of Raleigh or positions available in other company divisions, or should I just look outside the company(which I don't want to do, because I do not want to take a pay cut or start from scratch with health benefits, etc.)I do not want to move without a job secured for me, I have bills to pay.
So I am going to pray on it and actively look else where and hope something will work out for me.
Also if any of you guys know of any managment positions or positions in communications (i have a background in radio and tv), please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. TIA
Did you let the new DM know that your current DM told you she would talk to her about new positions? Maybe if she knows more about your situation she would work harder to find a job for you where you are moving to. Maybe call the Human resources person at the new place and tell them your situation as well. Good luck.
That sucks, missT. However, in retail management, you don't usually have to take a paycut to switch companies. Since turnover is so high (at least in my experience) most companies are willing to pay you what you want. Everytime I switched companies, I got more money. The health insurance thing sucks, but you can always get Cobra (it's expensive, but it's an option).
Also, I've found that retail management positions are pretty easy to come by, especially if you have experience (back to that high turnover thing). Every position I interviewed for, I was offered the job. So, that might be something to think about as well. \
Hey MissT--I live in Raleigh and while I don't know of any management positions available in communications, I'll keep my eyes peeled. There are some great companies around here to work for, so I'll do some online sleuthing for you and see if there's anything I come up with. If you have any questions about Raleigh or anything, just PM me! I hope your situation with the DM turns around. It sounds really frustrating!

Since the DM in the area I'm moving to is on vacation thisweek , I have had only communicated to her through voice mail. When I told my current DM two months ago that I wanted a transfer, she said she would contact the DM in the Raleigh area and let her know when I would move down there. In the past few conversations with my current DM about open positions, she said she talked to her and there where a few at the two stores in Raleigh and that I all I needed to do was voicemail the DM with my actual start date. So I did this yesterday after my current DM gave me her information, thus I am in this screwed up situation. But I have been emailing and faxing my resume for other opportunities outside of the company and I have received a few calls. Plus I do have some leads through others who have worked with me in the past. I'll just keep praying and I know something will work out for me.
Well, it sounds like you have some good leads. It is good that you didn't leave a transfer as your only option. Keeping in contact with the DM at the new place is good. It is so refreshing to hear you say you will keep praying and it will work out. I had been getting frustrated lately because my husband and I are trying to buy our first home and we lost 2 that we were in negotiations with and now we are buying a condo. I am also very frustrated with my job and have been wanting to get something better and closer to home (I commute 1 & 1/2 hours each way) My husband and I are religious and he believes very much in praying for god to let the right things happen for us and I have been getting frustrated because of the losing 2 houses and bad job thing, my faith was starting to slide, but we purchased that condo, and I found a much better job in the SAME TOWN!! I have a second interview Tuesday and we close on the condo on the 31st.
I know that was a lot about me and my situation, but I just wanted to say how nice it is that for those of us who have faith and work hard, god will do right by us after all, even if things get frustrating sometimes.
ETA: Okay today I finally got in touch with the DM in the Raleigh area and she told me that she told my current DM that a position was open and I would have to interview for it 2 MONTHS AGO!! Mind you, my current DM only told me that all I would need to do was voicemail the DM down there with my start date and it would be fine. Luckily, My current DM was in my store today and I confronted her about it. I told her she dropped the ball and did not keep me in the loop for 2 months about my transfer and I was pissed. She stood there and denied that she dropped the ball and that told me many times before that I needed to be interviewed (which she did not). She did not cared that I will be without a job. It was no concern to her, that a good, employee for 5 years will be without a job. She was more concerned with the type of tumb tacks we used on our bulletin boards. So I voicemailed our regional HR person to complain about how the situation was handled. I hope to get call from her in the next few days.
In the meanwhile, I have interviewed with another retailer and it sounds very promising. I hope to know if I have the position by Thursday. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!! Thanks!

OMG! OMG!! The thumbtack thing kills me! My old DM was like that, too. WTF?? More concerned with thumbtacks than the well-being and job situation of her employees? What a great boss.
Wow, I really don't get how mindless idiots like this are in managerial positions! My boss will do things like spill coffee on my projects and tell me I have to redo them, and blame me for stuff that happened when I WASN"T EVEN HERE and she was! I really don't understand. If I ever open my own company, you and Nyla are the first two I am calling to hire!!
Anyway, good luck to you and I really hope the other place works out. You sound like a really good employee with lots of experience. I am waiting to hear about a job I had a second interview for last night!!! I have my fingers crossed for both of us and Nyla of corse! I think friday we all need to have a virtual drink together!!!
I am so happy, I feel like a dumptruck of worries was lifted off my shoulders.
And my conversations today with my DM and my regional HR person were really positive about my concerns and me leaving the company for good. So I'm FREE!!!
Thanks a again and all your support and prayer does help (at least for me)!
To all you guys (Nylabelle and Luv2Shop) out there who are going through tough times at work, I hope everything works out for you.
A BIG thanks to you guys for all of your support!!
The new job is going great, I'm working for another retailer as the store manager. I'm learning alot and I feel my work will be appreciated more than with my other job.
