Ive only ever alterted pants, so i have no clue- i am a us size 6/8 and both are UK 14(US 12 from what ive read) i would not pay more than $30 for either since i need them altered, but would it even be possible?
thoughts?
i'm not sure it would come out right b/c of the side pleats?
such a shame they aren't the right size, i really like them both
I think they are alterable...but I think it will cost too much to do - and not sure that they will look right, even if you have a very talented tailor and pay a lot for that. They are both cute, but not sure they will ever come out quite right with all those pleats, and having to go down two (or more) sizes...sorry.

I disagree - I think that it would be a pretty simple matter of getting rid of several of the pleats. As long as they took out whole pleats rather than partial ones (so the fit might not end up perfect) it would be easy to just cut as many out as you need and then resew it. Sure, the seam might not look perfect, but it wouldn't be very noticable. THe only thing I'd worry about is that on the first one the ratio of non-pleated area to pleats may be important, and it could be hard to get that right. But that's a really cute skirt!
my two cents: i worked at a dry-cleaners in h.s. and i remember altering anything with pleats was usually pretty expensive. that being said, it was a more "upscale" dry-cleaners, but all the prices were relative. i hope i didn't confuse you too much.
