I need some help desperately! My mom's birthday is coming up in August and I have no idea what to get her. She is the hardest person in the world to shop for: she buys everything she wants for herself, and she's been known to return items that my dad and I have given her in the past. I'd love to get her something she really liked, but I'm stumped, as always. She loves cooking, silver jewelry, reading, and anything French. She and my dad split their time between San Diego and NC and they travel a bunch, so I was thinking about getting her this, but I think $85 is a lot for a jewelry portfolio:

Do you ladies know of where I could get something like this for a more reasonable price, or do you have any other ideas as to what I should get her? I could always go the candle/picture frame/girlie bath product route, but I feel like I've done that a million times already and I'd like to get her something a little more useful and unique.
How about makeup?? Maybe a fall pallete that she could pack easily that has different eyeshadows, lipsticks, and blush? Lorac makes 2 of them and my mom just got hers and loves it.
As far as the jewelry portfolio goes have you checked any major department stores for something similar or maybe ebay? I'm sure other sites have it but not sure who.
Oooh, I def. like the idea of getting her some makeup--that could be fun! I'll check around some department stores too for a better deal on a jewelry portfolio. I just think $85 plus shipping for that is a little excessive.
