Non-Shoppers.....
Permalink Closed

So it's been a MONTH and a ONE DAY (June 26th) since I last brought any clothes/shoes/jewelry, and to be honest, I feel pretty good about NOT buying anything. OK! OK! I'm lying, I really miss shopping, but in the long run, I have saved some $ this entire month, BUT! I may have to break down next month, UNLESS I ask my honey if he'll buy them for me (could I do that? LOL), and buy those choc. brown boots I posted earlier from Zappos from $43.00!!! Anyone else want to share their NON-SHOPPING success  story?!

Well, even though I broke my ban & bought a shrug for $13 (well, i bought 2 but brought one back) I did save nearly $400 in the last month just from not shopping & I made about $100 from ebay sales. Good think too because my mom & cousin will be here tomorrow until sunday & we'll be shopping every day! But my plan is to stick to my fall wish list & that would be really cool if I could!!! So that's the end of my shopping ban for now, but I really like the fact that I can spend this money with zero guilt & maybe buy a few more expensive things than i would normally get.

Well, I fell off the wagon a little bit with the wedding outfit debacle of a couple weekends ago. BUT I took back the brown velvet jacket I purchased at the Nordie sale and only kept the pieces I actually wore to the wedding. Other than that, I've purchased nothing. I even went to Anthropologie this weekend and coveted a few things but purchased none. August - October will be no buying months, also. I have to recover from the traveling I've done this month.

I feel really great about non-shopping because I think taking a break from constantly buy-buy-buy has really helped me realize that I don't need to have new things all the time. I am proud of myself when I can walk away from stores while browsing and trying on stuff. I used to have the worst case of shopping guilt (like "ooh the sales associate is so nice I have to buy this").

Also I think it's given me a better prespective on things and where I should be spending my money. With my recent move and weight loss, I got rid of almost 20 garbage of clothes... most of which could have been left on the racks and shouldn't have been bought in the first place. I have broken my ban, but only after long periods of thought and going back and forth in my mind about the true necessity/justification of my purchase. Anyway, what I'm saying is that when I do buy something, I feel good about it and don't say "oh no why did I buy that?"

I am happy that my non-shopping ban has been so positive, and I'm hoping that this new prespective on shopping will last longer than just a set amount of time. Hopefully, this new outlook will become more of an attitude adjust rather than a sort of diet.

I didn't end up with any extra in my bank account but I havn't bought clothes (or shoes!!) for a whole month and I am pretty proud! I did make some other purchases that I have been meaning to, but not able to because I spent all my money on clothes and I've paid off a nice chunck of my credit card. I have to buy a suit sometime before Saturday (just found out graduation is business, not business casual like they originally said and I don't have a single suit anyway), but aside from that I will be continuing to stay on the ban through August- this time saving money, since there are no other purchases I need to make.

Yep, I'm doing pretty good. I bought a ring for $30, to replace one that I lost (that's all I've bought!).  No extra money, though, b/c I am moving soon and have other expenses, but at least I didn't drain my account to buy more clothes.  And I'm feeling pretty good about it. I didn't think that I would be able to do it, but I'm so proud of myself!

I am feeling a slight withdrawal, though.  But I'm also stretching my wardrobe and wearing things that I haven't worn in a while. In fact, since I started my new job, I haven't worn the same outfit twice. I should stay on the ban until I end up wearing something a second time!  I wonder how long that would be?

I am happy - I have resisted the lure of buying. And I even had some returns to do later in the month, and I didn't buy anything in place of those either. I did wander the mall last week for a few hours, but wasn't really tempted to buy anything. I just hope that once the ban is over, I don't go crazy with all the fall-ish stuff I want! (My favorite season, hand down, is autumn).

Ever since my Neiman's last call stint about 3 weeks ago I haven't bought anything. I am really glad that I stopped ordering so much stuff from websites. They usually don't fit me right and I always have to send them back, and I used to lose a ton of money that way. I also would get ebay stuff that wouldn't fit and be too lazy to relist them. So I am still trying to stay strong. It helps that I have been really busy. And congrats again to everyone else.
